Some, maybe many of them, won't use the same exact software platform as you. This may seem strange. We got trained we can't use TikTok to make friends on Youtube, or Facebook to make friends on Twitter. To pick a box to be in.
But it's really not that complicated. You don't change cars to change motorway, use 5 different phones to text or call 5 different friends, 5 different post boxes to send 5 letters, use 5 different clients to email 5 different people, open 5 different browsers to visit 5 different websites.
Things are meant to work together, it's just better for everyone.
Your friends here stay your friends. Even if you use the new things that are evolving all the time here, there isn't that....
✊I Follow liberally!
More follows has zero algorithm penalty here. There is no algorithm (spoon). The more people I follow, the more interesting my feeds get. There are good tools for management of everything, so be adventurous & follow lots of different folk.
🤛I can look at different feeds like local, federated, home, and more.
@Finchless Welcome to the Fediverse, Finchless! A great way to start building up your feed is to follow hashtags related to your interests (check out the Explore "#" tab for hashtags). Also, follow anyone and everyone who seems even remotely interesting. You can always unfollow later if needed. @FediTips gives great tips on using the platform.
@ArtBear
You have been one of the first to say hi when I arrived. I'm sure people will reconnect with you because of the kindness you have shown each of us.
Everyone, this is @ArtBear, please give a warm re-welcome. They have lost all their people in the migration from a sinking server and are looking to find their friends again. Please help a bear out.
Hello #FoD s! I've decided that an extra account for all my embarrassing stuff was needed. So here is an #introduction . I'm Roel, I live in the Netherlands and I build automated solutions for work. Greatest Gen is one of the few podcasts I listen to immediately after it drops, I #GymShimoda at home with weights, though since I recently acquired a D'Rone of myself it is difficult getting back into it.
@JediMasterHere#welcome to Mastodon! The suggestions don't update, but some great ways to find people is by following hashtags for topics you enjoy and then begin following anyone and everyone remotely interesting that you see posting there. From their posts, you can find other people to follow. I know hashtags have a bad rep, but it's the best way to get your posts seen by more than just your followers here in the Fediverse. Like using the hashtag HogwartsLegacy when you're talking about the game. Hope that helps! Bon chance!
Two letters today to The Guardian about the recent Church of England announcement that, after long, acrimonious, hurtful debate, the C of E will now offer "prayers" for blessings of same-sex couples:
"Re your editorial, a few crumbs thrown at gay people is not enough, and never will be. I have been a Christian all my life and have made a generous contribution to church life."
P.S. It has just been announced that 261 United Methodist congregations in north Georgia — in that little pocket of the world alone — have left the UMC because they will not, absolutely refuse to, welcome and include LGBTQ people in their church.
Imagine thinking that just any old body should be welcome in a Christian church! The very idea!
The Guardian explains why it welcomes the decision of the Church of England — at long last — to bless same-sex unions:
"In previous years, the Church of England has changed its position on the remarriage of divorced people in church, the ordination of women and the appointment of female bishops."
"Each reform was fiercely opposed, but arguments based on the gospel message of inclusion and equality before God triumphed over those based on a narrow interpretation of scripture. …
In a remarkable essay charting his own change of heart on same-sex relationships, Mr Croft [bishop of Oxford] has written that 'the foundational trajectory of scripture is of recognising … dignity, worth and equality'."
This was released around All Hallows' Eve (precisely last November 1st this year) and is centered around the entire Black Space area of the game OMORI. Spoilers abound, as always, but in the Digital Merch tab, you'll also see some goodies in there, including Louillian's sheet music rearrangement of some notable tracks of the...
#Meta & #Threads would only have any influence on the ordering & visibility of posts on my Fedi timeline if I install their spyware app Threads (let it hoover up all the data in my device) & then use that app to access the #Fedi
When I access the Fedi normally, through normal Fedi servers as I have always done, then Meta content control algorithms simply do not exist for me.
CH.22
I can turn off boosts from individual users.
I can block individual users.
I can turn off all boosts in my timeline.
I can block entire servers.
I can turn these things on & off depending on my needs.
The Fedi puts users in charge, this is what decentralised means.
We decide for ourselves, we can change our minds depending on what we need that day or week, not some monolithic entity deciding the policy for entire Fedi.
Ch.23
So far my Fedi posts are public, & can be accessed in many ways including RSS. My choice.
I can see value in letting users still inside Corporate Social know that there is thriving Community Social, growing, evolving adding new platforms outside of corporate controls. Occasionally I remind them.
Us telling others, is the only marketing dept, the only ad budget, only campaign that the #Fedi has.
