there is something utterly adorkable about H.G Wells' book 'Little Wars' (1913), especially considering the amazing reproductions of photographs featuring the author and his quite notable friends playing a serious game with toy soldiers... while dressed in what then was most likely considered leisure wear.
Working on a megaboss for #Orktober, and it's illegal to build an ork kit entirely to instructions in my house, so we've got Da Silva Boss.
He survived a run-in with a Grey Knight strike squad on a space hulk, which inspired him to adapt his own armour to match theirs, as they were dead good at krumping the weird gits.
In the year 2246, a small group of Earth Alliance ships are trying to escape the clutches of the Minbari. We had a game of Babylon 5 Wars, a particularly crunchy set of space combat wargame rules.
It was time for another game of Full Thrust. The ESU with large ships against the FSE with a set of smaller, faster ships. It was an attempt to see if the manoeuvrability of the FSE could overcome the long range firepower of the ESU.
Another day of loving my job. (Which will compensate for all the marking this week.)
This is another run of Shell Game, the introductory scenario for A Balanced Fleet, my wargame for teaching warship designers and analysts about how warships do what they do. (And thus how to design better ones.)
At a Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game tournament today, at The BatCave in Blackburn, Lancs., UK.
Six tables running, 2 hours per game, lunch break atm.
Great to see all the #hobbit and #lordoftherings armies appearing. Even the three trolls, Bill, Bert and Tom, who narrowly lost to an enemy with enough sense to run away. #mesbg#MiddleEarthStrategyBattlegame#tabletopgaming#wargaming#hobby#miniatures
Last night we got to play with my new Dirtside designed vehicles. It was a NATO v Russian forces, with some modern and near-future vehicles. Most of a unit of T-80s was wiped out, then the Russians took advantage of the closely grouped NATO units and got some really good results with their artillery and things went downhill from there.
It's difficult to fight a war when you can't roll anything higher than a 2 in most of the engagements.
“the war game was constantly improved and elaborated, until from a few hours ‘war’ took weeks to play, and the critical operations in the attic monopolized half our thoughts.”

(1/x) Okay my delicious muppets, time for some microblogging on my #travels to post #brexit UK.
Rather nervous.
I've not travelled a lot over the past years, due to my eldest's autism, having a young family, Covid, burnout, the works. Now I'm travelling alone
I hate flying for numerous reasons. It's horrid for the environment, I hate busy airports, I always get pulled out of queues by customs, and I'm always anxious I've forgotten something.
