As a last roll of the dice before they leave office, the Tories have used emergency powers to ban puberty blockers for trans kids. Here’s a good explainer from Jo Maugham, including why it’s probably not legal
Realising that they have had a few mis-steps with the election campaign so far, the new advisor is set to steer the Conservatives to election victory. The new advisor is reputed to be as cunning as a fox who’s just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford.
Lesley Riddoch here arguing, essentially, that we all have to bite our tongues, haud oor whischt, and vote #SNP, because "they're the only parliamentary route to #ScottishIndependence. I count Lesley as a friend and as someone I greatly respect, but I think she's wrong here: there is no longer a parliamentary path to independence.
By the time #Starmer has frittered away his first term in government (as he will) on 'steady as she goes, don't frighten the #Tories' policies, the world will have reached the point where even mitigating the #ClimateEmergency will have become an impossible, cliff edge cost; and at that point there will be no space left for people of good will to do anything but put their shoulder to the wheel in the task of saving the planet.
#DianeAbbott is over 70 years old & is #Labour's past. I understand why she was suspended but she had a very valid point from a Black person's perspective
HOWEVER, saying what she did left Labour wide open to criticisms of #Antisemitism, just as the #Israel & #Palestine war broke out, & with #GE2024 on the horizon
This was the opportunity the desperate #Tories were looking for, leaving Labour little option but to be seen to be throwing the book at her. A wider discussion is needed
@AnthonyFStevens well you have not presented any version of either the past, nor #Starmer nor those now excluded which has any relationship with reality - other than a passion for change.
Sadly for quite a few the change is to become politically indistinguishable from the #Tories and critically, with very similar values.
Today, #Labour have extended their poll lead irrespective of new daily policy announcements from the #Tories. It's seems the #UK's had enough of them, & yearns for change regardless of what you think of #Starmer & his changed party.
The UK & Labour are moving forward with or without the hard left. They can either get on-board the Starmer Express, or be left behind on the platform moaning about #Corbyn. The choice is that really that simple.
What #Starmer is saying & doing, is different to his intent. Even the #Tories can see that Starmer's playing them at their own political game, & they can't stop him like they did with the hapless #Corbyn.
Understand this. It's All About power first, then fix 14 years of #Tory decay & mismanagement when in power.
Without power, Labour can talk all it wants, but it CAN'T affect the change the #UK desperately needs or wants in opposition. Some just can't see the obvious. 🤷🏾♂️
In #GeneralElections in the #UK, the most you can do is vote for your #ConstituencyMP. So if you want to get rid of the #Tories, the best thing to do is vote for the party most likely to unseat them locally where possible. Obviously if you’re in a safe non-Tory then you can vote for who you like but in marginals and even in relatively safe #Tory seats, #TacticalVoting might be your best option.
With all the contradictory & often incoherent comments about their National Service policy we’re hearing from various Ministers & MPs, I get the feeling the #Tories didn’t really think through their wonderful new idea. #Politics
