#StopKillingGames.com aims to delegalize game publishers thanos-snapping games you've paid real money for when they feel like it. Exactly what Ubisoft recently did with The Crew.
🇬🇧 Expert opinion on the extinction of computer games: #Pirates urge clear EU rules against arbitrary game shutdowns. Europe must recognise the cultural importance of games and protect their communities. #StopKillingGames@accursedfarms
#StopKillingGames
#StopKillingGames petition update:
🇬🇧 : The UK Petition is now 20% towards requiring a parliamentary debate. With an election looming, an optimistic view would be that opposition parties could recognise this as an issue and make pledges. That might be unlikely, but still worth trying to push for 80K more signatures, and there's many months to achieve this. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/659071/
🇦🇺 : The Australian petition is now live. Their site says petitions need at least 50 for referral. It's met that already, but the more the better. It closes in just over a week. https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN6080
🇬🇧 #Pirates call for cultural protection of video games. In collaboration with the #StopKillingGames initiative I am asking a priority question to EU digital Commissioner Breton.
🇬🇧#StopKillingGames: Lawyer Solmecke now shares my opinion that a game manufacturer must keep a game playable for at least two years after a purchase and that terms and conditions providing for arbitrary discretion are invalid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Pu8Pzaa-xo
Prawo do naprawy czyni środki techniczne konieczne do utrzymania oprogramowania w działającym stanie legalnymi.
I’ve been playing and enjoying games like Virtua Tennis 4 for more than a decade, and these jokers want to come along and say “we’re absolutely shutting down your SINGLE PLAYER game in two years.” #StopKillingGames

The perverse incentives to 🏴☠️ are kind of amusing, but the fraud is not. I would never have guessed "I should own the things I buy" would be a hill we'd have to fight on.

If you haven't heard about it yet, it's a legal/political campaign to make game publishers obliged to give you the means to keep playing (online) games you paid for, after they shutdown their official servers forever.
The UK petition to #StopKillingGames is now live! Anyone resident in the UK can sign it. This is an official government petition, so with enough signatures official action needs to be taken by the government.
If you care about videogame preservation, please share even if you can't sign.

hi! please take a moment to read up on https://www.stopkillinggames.com – this is an initiative by ross scott (accursedfarms on youtube, aka “the freeman’s mind guy”) to hold game developers and publishers accountable for shutting down game servers for games that were sold as products to consumers, essentially rendering them unplayable.
this is a serious consumer rights issue not just with regards to games being destroyed, but also with regards to the precedent it sets. i don’t know about you, but i don’t want a future of products that just irrevocably break when the vendor wants them to, or loses interest in supporting them.
i especially urge you to take a look and to consider taking action if you bought The Crew, or if you live in France or Germany, as your approaches to this problem are promising to be some of the most effective.
I fully support #StopKillingGames. Coincidentally this is just what I’m looking into with a colleague atm. Even with #TheCrew specifically on our mind. I don’t have the energy to write down what we’ve gotten so far entirely (we’re looking into the situation in Germany specifically). But there isn’t an easy solution at the moment. We’re working on some ideas to to some legal juggeling. But the digital content and digital services Directive has some wholes in Germany. I’ll write more about it soon
