Two teachers are suing the Oklahoma Superintendent of Schools for breach of contract after he demanded that they repay their $50,000 signing bonuses. He claimed that they lied on their applications, so they added a count for defamation. Law suit might go better for the Superintendent if his entire legal team had not quit.
"There is so much we know tentatively or not at all that is important here. It can be agonizing not to leap to reasonable (& tempting) conclusions, conclusions about responsibility and blame. But the consequences of getting things wrong are too high.
"So let’s be clear about what we do not yet know...."
YES, AND:
"...Oklahoma is not neutral ground. #Oklahoma’s schools are certainly no more a bastion of acceptance than any other schools & may be less."
Apparently #SeanCummings, local businessman and vice-mayor of The Village in #OklahomaCity, participates in the state's board of education meetings FOR THE PURPOSE OF speaking out against #RyanWalters and his policies almost every month!
The following are some of Sean's latest diatribes, calling out Walters and #ChayaRaichik for #StochasticTerrorism. Y'all, these are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 🔥🔥
Even if Nex's death turns out not to have been caused by the attack at the school, Cummings is right on all points. The #StochasticTerrorism is still FACT.
#NexBenedict, #Oklahoma#nonbinary teen died after #school fight amid reported #bullying
…The [statement] from the school district provided some background: The fight on Feb 7 involved several students at the HS. It was broken up by other students & a staff member. All of those involved “walked under their own power to the asst principal’s office & nurse’s office” &, per “district protocols,” were evaluated by the nurse.
This year, [Oklahoma] legislators already have proposed >50 anti-LGBTQ+ laws — more than any other state, according to the ACLU.
The man who heads #PublicEducation in #Oklahoma is also a vocal critic of #LGBTQ+ rights. Superintendent #RyanWalters appointed #ChayaRaichik — the #conservative activist behind #LibsOfTikTok, which has targeted LGBTQ-friendly teachers at #Owasso schools — to a state library advisory board.
@blogoklahoma Again out-of-touch legislators in Oklahoma City make pronouncements and expect people in rural Oklahoma to find a way to make them happen. Yes, they passed the law in 2020. Meanwhile a pandemic, Oklahoma laws restricting abortion, and the election of Ryan Walters happened.
Finding AP teachers isn't just a challenge of bringing talent to rural Oklahoma. It's now a challenge of bringing talent to an increasingly unfriendly, backward Oklahoma where teachers are compared to terrorists and if a woman finds herself with an unviable pregnancy that threatens her life she has to travel multiple hours to another state to get the medical help she needs. And, that's just the tip of the dysfunctional iceberg that is Oklahoma.
But sure, by all means, rural Oklahoma school districts should just go out there an attract the talent needed. #Oklahoma#RuralAmerica#RyanWalters
“Let’s not tie it to the skin color and say that the skin color determined that.”
— Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters (R), quoted by KOKH, arguing that teachers shouldn’t mention race when teaching about the infamous 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
