Hey spatial/point cloud experts ... Does anyone have any experience with Gaussian splats? Is there any value from a geospatial context? Any tools to convert these to standard point cloud formats? (I'd love to play with https://lumalabs.ai/176ed9aa-514f-4a45-9343-d4c708c86570?mode=sparkles in #qgis ! 😍)
Today's post is a #QGISServer update. It's been a while (12 years 😵) since I last posted about QGIS Server. It would be an understatement to say that things have evolved since then, not least due to the development of Docker which, Wikipedia tells me, was released 11 years ago. There have been multiple Docker images for QGIS Server provided by QGIS Community members over the years.
Moin kennt hier jemand zufällig einen öffentlich zugänglichen WFS, der über einen #QGIS Server bereit gestellt wird? Wir würden gerne was austesten und haben aber gerade keinen passenden Dienst parat, den wir anfragen können.

:-) NASA take the time they need to produce their official localization, although at times they are unbeatable. I just provide a preview (with mostly visually guessed paths) with some additional comments to present the story behind the maps. Of course #QGIS has many tools available to make interesting maps, which is rather limited with browser based maps, like the official one.
Today, I was again reminded that I'm not Apache admin enough to set it up correctly for #QGIS Server.
Luckily, there's a #Docker container to save the day: spin it up, put the project file in the data dir, and off you go with WMS, WFS, and wfs3 / OGC API
It appears as if #Perseverance wants to change route away from the riverbank edge and tries to find a clear path for its journey to Jezero's rim, in which case the Bright Angel target may have been abandoned.
The green dashed line shows a possible route, after tosol's new drive to RMC 51.4692. The new path (double white stitch) is a guess.
#Ingenuity may be marginally visible again, but will disappear for a long time if the green route is to be followed.
Used QGIS "Shape Tools" plugin to make the geodesic rings. It also has a nifty feature to fix discontinuities/artifacts along 180 E/W. Worth installing for that alone. 🙂
Animation lasts ~7 secs, light takes 68 ms to orbit to antipode, so this is like visualising a wave advancing at light speed slowed down by a factor of about 100.
#Perseverance had to clear a low mound SW of it so that it could continue on its painstaking westward path. Tosol's drive brought it to RMC 51.4014, where it stopped, not surprisingly, at a low regolith ripple. #Ingenuity is visible.

EDIT: Forgot attribution, used data copyright OpenStreetMap contributors. Normal qgis 'densify by interval' didn't work (too much detail?), but Geodesic densify did (from the 'Shape Tools' plugin)
New 30m drive and new location for #Perseverance on Sol 1114, RMC 51.2990, the closest so far to #Ingenuity, just 360m south of it, and very close to the edge of the south Neretva Vallis riverbank.
