Western sword fern (Polystichum munitum)
With the new growths, ferns look beautiful at the moment in the rainforest on Vancouver Island. I love the shapes and the vibrant green.
Strawberry Moon this past Saturday 🍓🌕 its challenging to take a photo of the moon, since getting back into photography its definitely one of the more challenging things I've tried. Taken at 600mm, rising over the Cascades #Photography#SonyAlpha#PNW#FullMoon#StrawberryMoon
I hiked the Elk Mountain - King’s Mountain Loop this morning. I tell myself I’m never doing this trail again each time, today being no exception. Elk Mountain is difficult, but fine. The technical section between Elk and King’s begins with repelling down the mountain with a rope. From there, it’s “trail” on cliff edges and parts where you have to scramble up rock with not much to hold onto and cliffs behind you if you slip.
People are starting to say there may be a serial killer in Portland. Stay safe out there!
“Six women in Portland have been found dead in secluded, wooded areas in the last three months within 100 miles of each other, triggering fears that a serial killer may be in the area.”
Met a friend about 5 minutes walk from my front door today. We get a lot of garter snakes, but this is the first big noodle I've seen here since I moved in. Hard to tell from the photo, but it's about 3 and a half feet long. I played crossing guard and watched for traffic while it crossed the street. What a beauty.
Malheur county in eastern Oregon badly needs jobs and investment. Two Nevada gold mining companies have been working for years to build Oregon's first chemical process mine south of Vale, promising over 200 high paying jobs. But between cyanide contamination, rock dust and water use, environmentalists have a long list of concerns.
Throwback Thursday to 07 September 2019: The biggest lightning storm I have ever seen in Western Washington. It went on for what felt like forever, but it was actually 30 minutes. Pretty continual lightning and thunder, getting closer and closer. Some of the still pictures look like daylight - very weird daylight. The other noise in the video is driving rain.
I love these two opposing photos of Table Mountain and the ridge that leads up to it. The views face each other and combined, they paint a picture of the entire area. I had to stand in a moderately, though most would say extremely, dangerous spot to get the first one.
Hello :) I am a disabled artist in Seattle, Washington. I am sharing my photography on Pixelfed.social and having an actual Mastodon account is helpful as well.
I like technology, linux, art, photography, music, meeting nice people, learning new things, science, animals, and nature especially.
I am friendly and follow back if you'd like to connect.
My mother grew masses of bearded iris but I prefer these wild, beardless iris growing in exuberant clumps.
According to US Forest Service, unlike most flowering plants, iris has a superpower: both leaf surfaces of the iris can absorb light to provide the energy to photosynthesize and produce food for the plant that is stored in its rhizomes.
Here’s a few more photos from my trip. Table Mountain was amazing. Took damage to 4 pieces of gear and have multiple bruises from slipping on the rock field but it was a fun trip. Washington State is beautiful.
