"In 2022, Korea's gender wage gap, defined as the median hourly wage difference between men and women, stood at 31.2 percent. This means that if the average wage for male workers is one million won ($756), the average wage for female workers is 688,000 won. This figure is nearly twice as high as Mexico's gender wage gap, which ranked 33rd in the overall assessment."
#Israel has said it has informed the families of 31 people held in the territory since 7 October that their relatives are dead. The news came as the Qatari prime minister said #Hamas had given a “generally positive” response to proposals for a deal trading a break in the fighting and release of #Palestinian prisoners for the return of more #hostages.
Israeli newspaper #YediothAhronoth reported Thursday that #Indonesia had agreed to normalise its ties with #Israel. The media outlet said #Jakarta needed Israel to approve its request to join the #OECD.
The #TimesOfIsrael, confirmed the report, citing an Israeli official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity about Indonesia’s possible normalisation of ties with Israel. #Gaza#TootSEA
Die deutsche Wirtschaft dürfte im laufenden Jahr kaum wachsen. Die OECD hat ihre Prognose für Deutschland halbiert. Andere Staaten dürften mehr zulegen.
ANALYSIS: Experts call for action amid South Korea’s rapid demographic change
"Despite #SouthKorea’s status as a 'multicultural country' by #OECD standards, some argue that Korean society is not prepared to coexist with foreign residents," writes Dohee Kim.
@sarahjelm@education@edutooter@edutooters@socialscience@politicalscience#PISA is interesting. But I wonder, how on earth did #OECD of all organizations become the ones that decide how we should measure and compare education efficacy? What is their expertise in the field, and how and when did they acquire it? What is their agenda, their view on which metrics are useful for comparisons, and which are not? What weight do they attribute to different aspects of knowledge and abilities?
Behind the #HomeOffice's measures to make 'legal' #migration more difficult (prev. posted) likely lies the record net migration from non-EU countries in 2022 reported by the ONS this morning.
But, to put that in a little context, the #OECD is also reporting the migration to rich countries has also reached record levels... driven by exactly the same forces seeing the UK:
Meanwhile at the #UnitedNations, despite developed/rich countries resistance, the UN has voted to take a larger role in global #tax reform.
This reflects a feeling in under-developed countries that the #OECD has moved to slowly & too weakly against global #corporations' #tax avoidance & evasion.
This will now set the UN & OECD up as regulatory rivals & initially at least may(?) stall further reform.
For critics of the OECD's previous activity this may be the cost of long-term radical change!
A key to the reforming the global economy is a reset of #corporate#tax regulation.
For years this was the remit of the #OECD but frustrated by the slowness of reform, developing countries tried to move the project to the #UnitedNations.
This resulted in a UN report last year & a series of voluntary standards as the first steps of reform.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, its now emerged that the UK & EU have been 'rubbishing' the report & working against these reforms.
#OECD#AI#EU#AIAct#AIRegulation: "With Wednesday’s decision, that definition has officially been updated, and it is likely to be incorporated into the EU’s upcoming AI regulation. The definition is a critical aspect of the upcoming law since it defines its very scope.
“An AI system is a machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that [can] influence physical or virtual environments. Different AI systems vary in their levels of autonomy and adaptiveness after deployment,” reads the new definition.
This definition was discussed in mid-October in the OECD’s Committee on Digital Economy Policy and Working Party on Artificial Intelligence Governance. According to a presentation given in this joint session, the timeline had been adapted “to inform the EU AI Act”."
#EU and #UK seek ban on #subsidies for foreign f#FossilFuel projects.
"An estimated $41 bn per year was spent by #OECD countries’ export credit agencies to support coal, oil and gas projects between 2018 and 2020, according to OCI, nearly five times their support for #CleanEnergy."
