Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard receives its premiere performance at the Moscow Art Theatre #OTD in 1904.
Written in 1903, it was first published by Znaniye (Book Two, 1904), and came out as a separate edition later that year in Saint Petersburg, via A.F. Marks Publishers. Chekhov described the play as a comedy, with some elements of farce, though Stanislavski treated it as a tragedy.

@yilinwriter has reached a settlement with the British Museum regarding their plagiarism of her translations of Qiu Jin's poetry! It's good to see an institution held accountable for exploiting people of colour and their labour. Let there be a lesson in the abhorrent way that Yilin has been treated and the undue stress she had to go through in order to achieve this.
To quote @yilinwriter, "permission must be obtained for the use of copyrighted translations, and [...] it’s important to always #NameTheTranslator and pay them professional fees for their work."

has finally wrestled an agreement from the British Museum. Very much overdue. It's confusing that they had no policy to obtain translations. It does make you wonder about previous installations.
Some friends have started this petition to support me and to hold the British Museum accountable for their use of my translations of Qiu Jin's poetry without permission, credit, or pay in an exhibit for over a month.
Alright, everyone, we are just a little more than £1k away from meeting the fundraiser target which is the minimum that would allow me to start legal action. Do you think we can make it to the finishing line today? It would be so amazing! Thank you!!

Today I want to talk about the importance of poetry in a Chinese cultural context and why this makes the removal of Qiu Jin's poetry especially problematic. Please share!
@CrypticMirror The British Museum is deliberately misrepresenting my demands. In my very first tweet I wrote #NameTheTranslator and then I said that they could not use my translations unless they paid me -- I wanted to make it clear they couldn't use it without permission and have to credit me and pay me a reasonable fee! Instead they removed the Chinese and the English and refuse to name the translator!
