The British may soon be deprived of French foie gras. The #Labour party, which is likely to win the next general elections, plans to bar any products made by force-feeding ducks or geese from entering the UK. Caroline Loyer reports. #France#UK#gastronomy
“EU officials have warned that this will mean signing up to Brussels rules and the European Court of Justice (ECJ), which may put at least the spirit of Labour’s red lines under pressure in the eyes of Leave backers.”
So what? Just do it.
Step 1 in rejoining.
“a Starmer government looks likely to come under pressure internally to take up the EU’s offer on youth mobility”
A very nice story about why we should start to #repair things more often with the support of local shops than replace them with brand new things that are more crappy than we think:
Aha, a(nother) Keir Starmer U-Turn that this time is likely to be welcomed quite broadly on the Left... he has confirmed that Diane Abbott will be standing in the election & will not be 'blocked'.
Altogether, this has been a classic unforced error & really has not done much for many to calm their nerves over the direction Labour has been travelling (whatever the logic of minimise the profile available for right qing attack).
I am pleased for Diane Abbott that Starmer felt he had to capitulate. But it is crystal clear the LP is no longer a home for any one with progressive values, and/or concerned about the plight of Palestinians.
The need to constantly check yourself, and humilating apologies, such as Faiza Shaheen yesterday for criticism of Israeli lobbying, when lobbying is a fact of political life (its not a trope when its a fact), so you're not purged. Why stay? #Labour#ukpolitics
The Labour Party, selecting General Election candidates, should be wary of ignoring the voters of 2019 - 10,295,912 who voted Labour, “for the many, not the few.” The House of Commons arithmetic disguises the fact that more people voted against Conservatives than for them. If the party does not welcome Corbyn or Abbott, how much of a home will it be for the voters it needs? Please don’t throw out the baby with the bath water, the UK needs change! #ukpolitics#labour#KierStarmer#DianeAbbott
"In the case of Diane Abbott, you sense that the #Labour party is staring over a cliff edge. How it deals with Abbott in the next 48 hours will be a defining moment."
Wake up to be given a classy example of how #Labour are determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - the purge of their MPs on the left is not going down well - with any of the public.
Meanwhile the hapless Mark Harper is been left left gormless by #VictoriaDerbyshire on #Tonight when their commitment to the young is pointed out - and that is before Brexit is raised.
