I didn't watch it live and know nothing about the horses in the race but the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby was a 3 way photo finish with a 18-1 long shout -- Mystic Dan -- winning the race by a nose.
The announcer blew the call naming another horse in the lead at the turn before the straight away to the finish & only figured out that Mystic Dan was in the lead until he broke away out in front beyond the turn.
Mystic Dan faded and was lucky to get the win, holding off betting favorites Sierra Leone (3-1) in 2nd and Forever Young (7-1) in 3rd.
It’s always a thrill to watch these old films of Secretariat. He knew he was a star.
I just learned that his heart weighed 22 lbs. The average racehorse’s heart is 9 lbs.

“Once in a blue moon”... This gorgeous super moon appeared over the Ohio River at Louisville. THis is a long exposure showing the Abraham Lincoln Bridge over the river.
I was a horse racing fan. I stopped after American Pharoah won, and I learned more about the horse racing industry. Yesterday, 2 horses were euthanized after the Kentucky Derby, after 5 died in the week leading up to the Derby. This isn't just specific to Santa Anita and the issues they've had. This is an industry problem. Until they look themselves in the mirror and stop these abusive practices, horses will continue to die. I don't know how anyone can enjoy the sport in good conscience.
Some horse won the 149th #KentuckyDerby just now. I don’t care. Two more #horses died today at Churchill Downs. That makes at least seven in recent days.
