There's a certain schadenfreude in witnessing the rending of shirts and blowing of fuses at the clear and obvious bias by the BBC in its #ge2024 coverage. Takes me right back to their coverage of #indyref in 2014. How do you like them apples? #Scotland#IndependenceIsNormal
The absolute state of this sneering vituperative creep.
"Kemi Badenoch has claimed the SNP are “too lazy” to do their own legislative work amid a spat over the UK Government’s handling of the Post Office scandal."
"... historically, as far as the English are concerned, they [the Scots] are like a turd that won’t flush. It’s like a boil that you have to keep lancing over and over again."
“... it’d be funny if Westminster gave them their independence and... later that day, you sent in the RAF and the parachute regiment and [invaded] them entirely. And that’s it – put an end to any idea of sovereignty.”
Imagine what these Reform Party psychos are saying in private.
I've never been convinced about his "moderate" credentials. His bonkers mendacious delusional cross-border gimmicks during the first #indyref campaign demonstrate that, as does his voting record at Westminster. His Establishment background includes a post-invasion posting to Iraq and I think the security services?
"At a Pierre #Poilievre [#AxeTheTax rally] in Corner Brook, NL this evening, where the media was asked to leave following PP's speech preventing us from posing questions to the party leader.
This is highly unusual for an event that the media was invited to cover. I was quite vocal in my opposition to the request. In the end, we had to comply, as it was ‘technically’ a private event and we were there by invitation of the party." - Don Bradshaw NTV News
@ned@Snowshadow@zenheathen@gemelliz You could have said that about the BBC in the UK, but their news department became deeply infiltrated by the Tories. This helped turn the #indyref in Scotland, deny action on climate change and of course enabled the Brexit vote to turn out as it did.
BBC ended up parroting far right narratives (Farage was always on Question Time), bothsidesing (Climate) and had senior Tory staffers and activists in key positions.
@fkamiah17 TBH, with the persistent failure/acquiescence of the SNP, the growth of Welsh Awareness and the edging dramatically towards a United Ireland I'm beginning to think #Scotland will be last to be free.
I used to think we'd be first. But the letdowns THIS side of the border are our biggest problem.
It's been a DECADE since the first, and very dodgy, #IndyRef and we are demonstrably worse off than we were then.
W'minster isn't taking our legislative power, ScotGov is LETTING them.
During the #IndyRef in #Scotland, an Uncle kept saying Scotland was too small to be an independent country, to which I kept replying then you have to explain why Denmark (+ Norway, Ireland etc) are successful.
This is a partial comparison of the 2.

Having said all of which, as regards Scottish independence (+ I would characterise myself as #IndyCurious not convinced), it's very much on the lines of the old joke, "if you're going there I wouldn't start from here..." https://mastodon.scot/@BelieveinScotland/111370143584798632
Can't believe it's been so long since #IndyRef. Nine years! Had we voted #Yes back then (I did), we'd be celebrating #Scottish#IndependenceDay this week. And we'd likely still be i the #EU. #Scotland
Rory Stewart's campaign to make himself seem palatable continues. Yesterday, he tried the old "some MP's have mental health problems because it's so hard". Today, he's in the Scotsman saying he wants to be an MSP. Here's his abysmal record where he voted against climate change measures, voted to increase student fees/remove funding and also voted to put every UK citizen under surveillance. He's ex-MI6.
During the #indyref he started an org called "Hands across the border" so people could hold hands instead of voting for that terrible indy the Tories didn't like. :blobcat_crying: It got cancelled two days before when Rory realised he was 60 miles out from the actual border. You'd think an ex-intelligence guy could have figured it out.
I think 50% + 1 of electors voting for indy parties might do it.... you have yet to get there. Then another #indyRef with or without English permission
Nobody can force #scotland to remain in the Union if it actually wants to leave. But so far that has not been evident
@pilaraymara No, I don't think so. Salmon, like all of us, is a flawed individual; he has strengths and weaknesses. By contrast with Sturgeon, who is almost pathologically risk-averse, he's a gambler; that contrast may be what made them a good team.
His risk-taking behaviour took us to the 2014 #indyref, I grant you; but he didn't win it, and the same behaviour led him into the scandals that brought him down.
