Why I prefer reading #GhostBlog blogs to #Medium and am looking forward to their #ActivityPub networking. I'm not sure if Medium authors remember this is the first impression that many of their blogs will see-- a good part of the page covered with a popover.

This is definitely something great to see for those that use Ghost Blog or are thinking of doing so.

#GhostBlog is beginning #ActivityPub development for Ghost, while also still figuring out exactly which features they want to implement.

They have a form here for feedback, particularly for Ghost blog managers:

has started implementing endpoints for /actor/:id, /key/:id, /inbox/:id, /outbox/:id and /.well-known/webfinger

https://webfinger.net/spec/

From commit:

"WebFinger is the protocol which allows different ActivityPub implementers to find information about Actors, it's could be thought of as the entrypoint. Given a username like @user, we can look up the URL for the Actor at

https://website.com/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:user@site.com

This would then give us info needed to discover the Actors Inbox & Outbox"

Please sign up to my daily newsletter!

Backstory - based on a post by @molly0xfff , I was intrigued by the idea of Ghost - and leaving Substack. I read the Platformer newsletter last week about all the controversy and will bail out of there shortly.

I started out creating a site over at Ghost.io, but I like self-hosting my stuff, so on a cold wintry day, I went down the rabbit hole.

I'm a huge fan of RunCloud for my server management, and so I followed this handy guide.

https://blog.runcloud.io/ghost/

.... and used a Linux server in my home to extract a few hundred posts from my Substack account to drag over to my Ghost, and then imported them.

The result is I'm running a new instance for my Daily Inspiration over at https://daily.jimcarroll.com

A shoutout to @markstos for some guidance!

I'll use it as another path to post my Daily Inspiration post, which I have been writing every morning since early August 2016 (when some personal circumstances drove me to a life of clarity.) My next one goes out ... tomorrow morning.

If you could help me stress test my setup by signing up, that would help me out. You might like my posts too. You can leave at any time.

@jimcarroll @molly0xfff You are welcome.

My own is at https://mark.stosberg.com

I use the feature to have multiple newsletter segments, so folks can sign up for my mapping posts, tech posts or plant-powered adventures.

If you want all the gory details on how I migrated my Citation Needed newsletter from #Substack to self-hosted #ghost here they are:

Happy to try to help anyone else making this move!

@jimcarroll @molly0xfff has separate configuration for transaction email and bulk email.

If you want to send out both through Mailgun, you can send the transactional emails out through the Mailgun SMTP interface.

You can send (only) transaction emails out through SES also via SMTP.

The Ghost project is open supporting other providers for bulk email, but first an "adapter" needs to be created that abstracts the details for each provider.

Ghost also uses Mailgun for analytics.
