How about if we take some time off from talking about Threads (TM) the Instagram/Facebook/Meta App, and instead talk about the best #interfaces for displaying and building a conversation #thread on the internet?
For a bit, I was chatting with some people I know from Euphoria about whether we could conceivably build a #Matrix client that would mimic Euphoria's #threaded conversation experience, and we realized that (technical challenges aside), we would quickly run into this exact issue if we tried to use this client to communicate with people using a more mainstream client, such as #Element.
Ideally, this section would introduce a guarantee that this type of notice would not be imposed on providers of end-to-end encrypted communications. Instead it relies on questionable concepts such as “accredited technology” to wistfully wave some form of assurance that ‘this sort of thing’ is technically possible and it’ll all be fine, secure and appropriate.
Be under no illusion; “accredited technology” is no more reassuring than a lock which can be opened by a skeleton key.
It’s this aspect of the Online Safety Bill - the potential for undermining of end-to-end encryption - that we refute as completely flawed. It is not possible to have both secure communications and blanket surveillance, in the same way you cannot “have your cake and eat it.”
Thank you for all the great replies and responses to this poll! It somehwat confirmed my belief that Signal is the goto for most for secure, end to end encrypted chat (which I have used on occasion). But I also learned about other options I had never known about before including many decentralized options. Check out the replies to my poll to see them. #Signal#Matrix#Element#WhatsApp#Telegram#Synapse#Wire#Threema#SecureChat#E2EE#Messaging
Compared to all other #Matrix clients I've used, #ElementX for iOS feels phenomenal! It's the first one I don't dread using and its existence is giving me hope for the ecosystem again. That team is very much on the right track. #Element
I'm trying #cinny to replace #element as a daily #matrix client because not only it is one of the featured clients with beautiful and consistent UI, but also I've been really fed up with governance of vector-im, to which I had essentially provided just free labor.
If you like a simple UI centered on text based communication without a bunch of features such as widget and thread, cinny should be a better choice than Element, though the client seems to lack basic features like permalink.
ElementX (the next-gen Matrix client) is coming soon! We have a very interesting stack on the client side. Be prepared for a loooong blog post.
Meanwhile, I go back polishing every details…
Just wondering if there's a website/account for guide of using Matrix/Element? Sort of like Fedi.tips to get to know Fediverse software (primarily just Mastodon at best)
#Facebook i #Instagram zniknęły z ekranu głównego mojego telefonu.
#MeaCulpa I just realized that I was joining in the chorus of disapproval about John Mastodon driving new signups to his flagship mastodon.social server, in very strident terms, despite having made excuses for the matrix folks doing exactly the same thing; driving new sign-ups to the matrix.org homesever in Riot/Element. I guess it just reminds me that nobody is immune from bias, however fair and balanced we're trying to be 🫣
