@mae I used to love #Discord, but now I hate it because of shit like this. People use it as a complete replacement for the internet. Yeah sure, let's put everything in the hands of this one company, it'll be fine.

1️⃣ mach einen eigenen #Discord-Server (googeln + in 2min erstellt)
2️⃣ lade den Midjourney-Bot in deinen Server ein
3️⃣ erstelle einen eigenen Kanal für Midjourney

In total ca. 5 Minuten fertig und du hast dein eigenes, privates Midjourney-Bildgenerierungstool bei dir zuhause :)
Interessant wäre evtl auch ein Federated Chat Service...
Hab ein bisschen nachgedacht und möglicherweise ist das sogar mit #activitypub zu machen.
So ein bisschen "back to the roots" mäßig, zurück in Richtung TS3. Wobei natürlich die Frage wäre wie viele Leute bereit wären ihren eigenen Server zu hosten wenn Dinge wie #Discord existieren
Spent the last half hour fighting with Discord. There's an essay to be written on the centralization of the corporate web: Reddit destroying forums, Discord killing forums and IRC, etc. My login wouldn't work and then the password reset wouldn't, and this, people tell me, is better than what we had before. I only use this because it's what other people are using. The story of the last fifteen years, I guess. #Discord
So I don't mind using Discord, and love the message list. Usually. But my goodness the things server admins have to do in order to make Discord more than just a little chat app is just draining sometimes. Like setting roles, I can deal with that after I realize I need to hit the toggle button and not just the regular button cause that just opens a little popup thing telling me about the emoji thing the role is associated with. And then the "introduce yourself using this template and if you don't follow it exactly your message will be deleted cause bot." Like, I don't have the spoons for doing that, again and again. And with most servers having so few mods, I should not have to DM them just to be put in the full server with access to all the channels.
To be clear, I'm not ranting at admins or mods who do this. I hate that this has to be done in the first place. I almost gave up when I realized I didn't copy the whole template. But I pused through it and if it doesn't work I'm leaving that server. I just don't feel like dealing with that kind of needless bullcrap today.
Admittedly I'm becoming increasingly frustrated that folks can go on and on about the evils of Reddit and yet continue to sequester all the knowledge about their interests and hobbies in obscure chats, allowing Reddit to go uncontested in being the source of publicly accessible info on some of those topics.
Yes I know there's definitely an element of "and yet you participate in society" in this, but that doesn't really lessen the frustration.
Thank you discord for making their platform like everything else, now if you have a rare tag, you will be hunted down until you give it to an even more extreme level than twitter! OH I almost forgot how people will now try to get into partner accounts and secure rare usernames as well since those accounts are one of the first to get the tag system! Thank you discord. Very cool.
If you think you will be a target, turn off SMS 2FA in case of sim swapping, set DM spam filter to all DMs and make sure you stay aware because scams are going to show up exponentially.
If you think that they will turn back on it, dream on. This came from the co-founder so unless there is a full blown riot, they will move forward.
Been chatting in one-on-one / DM chats on #discord recently.
Took me a while to realise that I wasn't doing it on #mastodon/#fediverse: The people I was chatting with also have accounts here, but who'd use the DM's interface for chat?!
The chat situation here probably needs some polish. It's literally got me sitting on another platform just for basic chat.

@tupper Discord has moved from being a simple and fast gaming communication tool to an everything-community-social-networking-app. And you can tell whoever their investors are slowly wants to see they can make money with it.
And they also trap decades of human knowledge never to be found by search engines.
The only Minor Threat recording I own is the CD with everything on it. It is exhausting to listen to it all. So I split my digital files into the original releases and it make it a more enjoyable listen.
