• UNAM scientists consider that it is an unprecedented condition and suggest that society reduce exposure to the sun, wear light colors, use sunscreen and constantly hydrate, among other measures.

@MsMerope But yes, that would be #1 on my list of "bad stuff that could happen in 2024" list (for folks who don't live in hurricane areas). And, globally. #2 is super-crazy-hurricanes level Texas, Louisiana, or Florida. #3 is H5N1 hops from cows to humans and then it's all bets off. #4 is western wildfires, but that is an assumed risk; that said, a lot of the flammable stuff caught fire in the last 8 years or so, so less fuel. But heatwaves are #1.
@ai6yr My friend’s ex was a kindergarten/1st grade teacher. I once asked her if she ever thought about teaching higher grades. She said no because after fourth grade, they begin to smell. I can only imagine the ripeness throughout those school hallways. Gives a whole new meaning to “smells like teen spirit.“
@mlanger We shall see. This one is not due to their lack of interconnection, but destruction of their internal transmission lines. This being Texas, they will likely raise the cost of energy for the lowest income consumers as punishment to pay for the damage (the Texas energy system is run by the power producers, who appear to view it as a means to make themselves wealthier, at great cost to the population).
