My spouse is having shoulder replacement surgery and facing a long recovery over the dark winter. I thought it might be fun to learn how to play some kind of game together - a #BoardGame, or #VideoGame, even role-playing like D & D...maybe?
We've never done anything other than a few board games. I'd like it to be fun for two people (or more), relatively easy to get the hang of, and for video games, no gun violence.
I was one of the backers of the #InsideTheBox kickstarters for #SubTerraII (and other things), whose failed promises are now being delivered by #NaylorGames through #GameFound.
I think I got an email about the package finally being delivered (it's from ZATU, which my understanding is the #boardgame distributor through which the pledge is being fulfilled).
This is #goodNews.
A new couple started showing up at my FLGS. Introduced them to Ticket to Ride: Europe last Thursday. Brought along the trains from The Little Plastic Train Company, which are always a hit.
Last Saturday, we played #SpiritIsland. I think it might have been a bit much for them, but they got the hang of it by the end.
Yesterday, Architects of the West Kingdom hit the table. First time at 5, and it's still great, even with that many people!
Lost my first game in the campaign but came back and just barely won the second. I am really loving the pieces of story interwoven in as you play and the changes from game to game.
It's staggering how often #BoardGame designers create "party games" where there's a component of clue-giving that works out in such a way that it's always against the rules to say anything other than a one-word clue.
Like what the fuck kind of parties are these people going to where folks would like to sit down and everyone has to completely stop talking to each other?
Ok #boardgame nerds. We have a few BGs but we also have cats and not many areas in the house to play. If we don’t finish a game in one night I’d like to leave the game out, cards/pieces where they are, and pick things up the next day. However the cats will get up on the table and knock pieces or cards out of place. Is there something like.. um, a playing surface with like a clip down cover or something, like a giant shallow Tupperware dish, so that we can protect the game - or jigsaw for that matter - from being buggered up by the cats?
Edit: affordable. Like not more than a hundred bucks.
I painted up the figures for Scythe (the boardgame) a while ago.
I kept to the official colour schemes for the characters, and the army colours for the mechs.
I also added basing to the figures but left the edges as plain plastic.
All this helps the figures remain recognisable for gaming.
I keep getting wrecked by damage (aka running out of cards for those who don't know) in The Legacy of Yu. Even when buying Townspeople cards liberally, I can't keep up with the amount of Townspeople I lose when building canal pieces 3 and 4.
Spent well over two hours setting up Mr. President last night. It's an intense solo #boardgame simulating pretty much everything that can go wrong during a four-year term. I've actually taken to playing this by discord with my friends which I think will be a fun project; we often discuss politics so this will be a fun hypothetical experiment.
(The only problem is it will dominate my board game table for the coming weeks, so not much else will get played)
I finally finished up my #FinalGirl#miniatures but having issues with how I want to photograph them for the blog.
Here are some examples of a really stylized version I did, that I think captures the #horror aspect of the game but I'm not sure if a more standard set would be better so people could see the colors used better.
Thoughts? I'm putting a poll in the replies to this post if anyone is interested.
Toying around with changing up the style of my YouTube thumbnails for my #BoardGame reviews. Any opinion on old vs new? Putting a poll in the comments if you want to vote! Old style is the one with the white on left, new is the other.
