Back in the days the manufacturers were throwing a lot of shit at the wall, seeing what sticks. Some ideas we weird, some were wacky, some we just accept as one of those "but that's how pinball has always been!". Here's Chicago Coin's Big Flipper and its "Jumbo flippers". They're about twice as large as normal flipper you know today. Technically they were moved from the middle, not from the shaft like normal flippers. In Ice Cold Beer, players use two joysticks to control a metal bar that moves up and down a wooden playfield dotted with holes, reminiscent of bubbles in a mug of beer.
The objective is to tip the bar to guide a ball bearing into specific lit holes while avoiding unlit ones. As players progress, the target holes become increasingly challenging to reach while navigating around unlit holes.

It's good, and it's also hard. Deliberately so -- if you want an addictive challenge, it's a great choice. The boss design is awesome. Well, as far as I know they're all awesome ... I've only ever gotten to the third stage.
