Here, but not here. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what drove me off Mastodon. #Zionism, #Islamophobia, #AntiArabRacism (an odd one to affect me, since I am NOT #Arab, nor have I ever claimed to be) were the usual suspects.
Instance #admins & #mods did what they do best on the fediverse: they attacked. I was but one of a handful of #ProPalestine voices on here that needed to be silenced. #Dogpiling is one of their tactics. People come out of the woodwork to attack. It overwhelms.
Is "salam alaykum"/"shalom aleichem" a polytheist greeting? The word salam/shalom in Arabic and Hebrew, based on the Semitic root Š-L-M, means "peace". But its not only a peace - in the ancient Semitic polytheist tradition, there had been venerated a god of peace and dusk, named Shalim. So I see this as possible that the ancient Semites were using such greeting means not an impersonal peace, but the deity linked with the peacefulness and completion of twilight. #semiticpolytheism#arab#hebrew
...expansionism of islam and the conquest of the #HolyLand, which had belonged to the #Roman and then its heir, the #ByzantineEmpire, by invading #Arab forces, expanding throughout the #Mediterranean and beyond.
So, the crusader picture does not really support your story.
What you are saying would be true for large parts of #LatinAmerica, though.
...in which #Arab leaders have accepted their weakness in material and military affairs and sought to normalize with a much more powerful, Western-backed #Israel.
By contrast, the #Iranians, #Hamas, #Hezbollah, the #Houthis and others chose a more religiously-sound approach. They accepted that the #US could overwhelm them with high-tech “shock and awe” aerial attacks. 👉They chose to focus instead on delivering...

"👉#Iran and its allies, by contrast, regularly show that they can keep fighting and landing decisive blows.👈 They, like the #Arab peoples led by #America’s allies, 👉are religiously committed to destroying #Israel.👈

The balance of power, which previously forced the #Arab states to avoid fighting Israel and antagonizing the U.S., has shifted. 👉Now the balance of power dictates that the #Arabs prevent #Israel from winning and avoid antagonizing #Iran and their own publics.👈

#Trump’s statement that he’d encourage #Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” to #European#allies who aren’t meeting #NATO spending guidelines has rattled #Michigan residents w/ #Polish heritage or family ties, who said they found his remarks “appalling,” insulting & un-American.
@Nonilex will the #Arab voters stay home? Or protest vote Trump? Biden can't afford to lose a tightly contested / swing MI.
You are spot on about the #Polish.
Putin sent signals to US both in public, and privately through intermediaries, incl through its #Arab partners that he was ready to consider a ceasefire in Ukraine.
No doubt, hoping for #Trump victory in #Election2024, Putin proposed to freeze the conflict at current lines without ceding any Ukrainian territory controlled by Russia
...captured and annexed the West Bank during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War until it was occupied by Israel in 1967. "
The kingdom's independence predates the #UN resolution in question by a year. The resolution about the carve-out of an #Arab nation would not have made any sense anymore in 1947 if #Jordan really were that nation.
I did read your long summary and, from my recollection, don't find any fault.
So you also agree that the 2nd #UN resolution calling for the founding of an #Arab state (which still is a very controversial subject) has not been carried out, correct?
"...but also on the ground realities at the time, such as the #Jewish population's presence and the outcome of the #Arab-#Israeli War of 1948."
I can agree with all the facts that you state here (with the whole post, in fact) as they coincide with my recollection of things I have read and heard in the past. Thank you, too, for the recap.
#PeteButtigieg, #POTUS Joe Biden's transpo secy…vowed Wed that #Biden is taking no #vote for granted & will continue to reach out to #Arab & #Muslim voters in #Michigan.
"The president is determined to do everything that he can to safeguard #civilian life in any part of the #MiddleEast, certainly in #Gaza, as well as in Israel. That commitment will continue,” Buttigieg said.
