Amazing that, even at his age, Alito can stand on his head to read the law.
"One particularly notable hypothetical came from Alito, who raised the prospect that an outgoing president who loses a closely contested race but fears indictment upon leaving office might try to remain in power, creating 'a cycle that destabilizes the functioning of our country as a democracy. ' ”

#Alito seems to assume the prosecution of #Tfg (or any former president) will be corrupt and political, but doesn’t deal with the real (and probable) situation that actual crimes were committed that require invoking the #ruleoflaw .

my kid the lawyer:

Dad, stop thinking these guys (Alito et al) care at all about logic or the law; they decide what they want and then create something however silly, to support that pre conceived idea

@dougiec3
That is exactly what happened in 2020! What a moron.

Nixon was informed by his own party that he would be impeached if he tried to remain in office. The current Republican party refused even to consider Trump's attempted coup and there's no reason to think that mindset will change anytime soon.

Pretty disturbing that the "Supreme" Court have basically moved the overton window so far that a President assassinating his opponent if he feels like it is acceptable to them. We can't allow this. Justices must be removed by any means necessary. Total insanity. Indict Ginny as a first step. Get that POS Thomas to resign.

dougiec3,
@dougiec3@libretooth.gr avatar

@lin11c
I have to agree about indicting Ginny Thomas, but she does seem to be above the law.

lin11c,
@lin11c@toad.social avatar

@dougiec3
There is zero reason why she can't be indicted. They have the texts and emails and money funneling evidence.

@lin11c
But, as several SCOTUS justices have said in considering T**** immunity: it's never been done before.
In other words, gosh! Insurrection! How do we deal with that?
As if.

lin11c,
@lin11c@toad.social avatar

@dougiec3
The lower court already dealt with the case in an ironclad way. This is simply election subversion and it must be treated like that. These idiots aren't even elected so I would break some norms and get rid of them. It's never been done before. So what? I bet three of them could be indicted for illegal acts. Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas.

@lin11c @dougiec3 How long are Americans going to allow unelected extremists in black robes to destroy this country?

lin11c,

@DebErupts @dougiec3
There are things that could be done immediately. Send the Senate Leo supboena to DOJ. Demand that Ginny Thomas be indicted for her huge part in the fake electors scheme and financing of MAGAt attackers. We all have to pressure DOJ to do their f*cking job.

@DebErupts @dougiec3
Indict every insurrectionist in Congress. You know, the ones who asked for pardons and gave tours when they were forbidden and texted "the Speaker has left the chamber" and received phone calls from the Oval Office to stop the vote etc. etc.

@dougiec3 @lin11c they're just dragging their heels. It would disrupt the duocracy if the R's lose too much face. The delicate balance of power that ensures moderate centrism and fascism continue to work hand in hand to effect the upward transfer of wealth would be unsettled.

Notice how nothing was done, even nominally, symbolically, the two years that D's had trifecta control of WH, Senate, and House, after Pelosi promptly seated the Seditionist Caucus after they disavowed the 2020 results.

lin11c,
@lin11c@toad.social avatar

@RebelGeek99 @dougiec3 Yes I know. Dems tried to fix things but there were two bought off “Dems” Manchin and Sinema who destroyed all possibility of overturning the filibuster to pass voting rights and other necessary legislation. I don’t know why more people don’t despise these traitors. To be honest, there were probably more. The “Blue-dogs”.

RebelGeek99,
@RebelGeek99@mastodon.social avatar

@lin11c @dougiec3 agreed. Fetterman and Kelly are the new rotating villains we have to look forward to... And yeah, the Blue Dogs are reprehensible, I live in a district represented by one of them (MGP of ).

They have it all figured out. Sinema voted with Dems more often than Sanders (>90% of the time), but not on the big ticket items. The DINO representing my district is much the same - ran on a Bernie-lite platform, now votes w D's >80% of time but stomps down any big ticket items.

lin11c,
@lin11c@toad.social avatar

@RebelGeek99 @dougiec3
It's so frustrating. They lie to get elected. It should be illegal. I think we need more voter powers to remove them if they change their stance or party. Outrageous.
