@topher These people should watch The Lives of Others to understand just what kind of privacy they're giving up, like someone listening to and discussing your having sex.
Also, things that are fine now can come to haunt you later when made illegal. "If only I follow all the rules, I'll be safe from their wrath" is what people tell themselves in abusive relationships. It's a normal defense mechanism: people convince themselves that they're in control of their fate.
