Don't know how much it gets used, but I think the #Brandmeister #DMR #SMS messaging system is down.

Messages to #APRS (310999) don't go through. Messages to N4DVM (262995) get stored in the system, but her DMR radio is logged on and should be receiving messages, but don't.

Can anybody else confirm this, or am I doing something wrong here? (just learned how to do it this weekend- getting some practice in).

@bud_t Can you confirm?

@AE4WX I just sent you a test message

bud_t,
@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@AE4WX and got a successful reply from BM ("stored in the system")

@bud_t nothing heard on this end. Same thing happens when I send messages to/from me and N4DVM. Both radios are on and sitting right here at the desk.

@AE4WX Yeah not sure. It could be down, or just really slow right now?

I just asked for a METAR from 262993 and I'm still waiting too...

AE4WX,
@AE4WX@mas.to avatar

@bud_t Just sent you a test message for completeness's sake

bud_t,
@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@AE4WX message received. And replied

AE4WX,
@AE4WX@mas.to avatar

@bud_t You received it? Well that blows my theory. I'm not getting nothing.

262995, correct?

bud_t,
@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@AE4WX Yes, and I replied to you

AE4WX,
@AE4WX@mas.to avatar

@bud_t I winder why I'm not receiving messages. Very strange.

bud_t,
@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@AE4WX did you try sending INBOX to 262995?

ai6yr,
@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@bud_t @AE4WX LOL all of the complexity and failures of the Internet, but worse... Thus did the the message get sent via 100 watts and Morse Code faster than debugging the network 😉

@bud_t@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@ai6yr @AE4WX and that's why I always maintain that this stuff is a toy, not a tool. But it is fun.

Mission critical, dependable, and reliable communications are another level of thing entirely.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@bud_t @AE4WX I'm just poking fun of course... ;-)

I recall during several wildfire emergencies here back in 2018/2019 or so, when several of the "emergency repeater" networks went down HARD, because 1. The Internet went down (they link their repeaters via the internet) and 2. Shore power went down (minimal provision for backup power). Your "disaster/emergency repeater network" is useless if they don't stay up in actual disasters/emergencies.

@ai6yr @AE4WX reling on shore power is never a good idea for any comms equipment. That's why we almost never use it in #wildfire communications.
