JS8 and JS8Call: A big part of the future of digital modes

The more I find out about js8 and js8call, the more stirred up I get about it.

It comes down to two questions:
Why hasn't this protocol seen broader adoption? and Why haven't there been more attempts to extend it?

This protocol has a lot of capabilities, and not so much 'a lot of room for improvement' as 'provides an incredible opportunity for platform building'.

I am really eager to see more hams operating the js8 protocol, and also very eager to see and participate in the creation of new applications around the protocol.
