Never dreamed my activations would become this. Every activation for more than 2 weeks. Sad someone spends $1k+ to bring havoc to others as a form of entertainment. Is this what has become? COUNT ME OUT!

@N4JAW

What an asshole. Sad hams piss me off.

ae4y,

@N4JAW I experienced the same type of interference on my activation this past Monday. It was a different digital mode in my case, but equally intentional. It was slightly off of my frequency, so I was able to continue to work hunters and the QRMer eventually gave up.

64m,

@N4JAW
What bands is this happening on Jim? Is it someone local to you, or dx do you think?

N4JAW,
@N4JAW@mastodon.radio avatar

@64m Today it happen on 40 meters. Not saying its the same person but this has happened on every POTA activation in some sort for about 2 weeks. If I change frequency, they change with me. I've changed to 30 and 20 meters and they follow me. When I go to 17, 15,12,or 10 meters; it never happens. Leads me to believe they're located east of the Mississippi and south of Canada as I activate 1100 - 1500 UTC .

@N4JAW What the hell!

@N4JAW It's AFSK, and a quick head count says about 13.5 seconds, both of which could be FT8. Later tonight I can play this into my FT8 computer and see if it decodes. IF it does, it will at least show whether you're dealing with a jammer or a complete idiot operator.

acyberexpert,

@N4JAW

Ugh, that’s terrible.

Another approach is to use the network of available KiwiSDRs to help locate it a bit better, either by looking for which has a stronger signal or with plenty of maths, looking at time of arrival.

kentborg,

@N4JAW Nasty.

KY4ID,

@N4JAW FT8 I think. IIRC, it takes effort to get outside of the standard frequencies, so seems pretty intentional.

Only other possibility would be a DXpediton in F/H mode. That would be a heck of a coincidence though.

I agree, hard to believe people would jump through the hoops and pay the money, then do something like this.

N4JAW,
@N4JAW@mastodon.radio avatar

@KY4ID Definitely intentional,. It started just after my 1st QSO, 1 minute into to calling CQ and continued for more than 16 minutes at which time I went QRT. Hunters were very patient by repeating info in between the key downs. I should have stayed on so he could have fried his finals by keying down contentiously

KY4ID,

@N4JAW gotcha. I went back reread your post and see that it’s been happening for last 2 weeks as well. I don’t understand these losers.

N4JAW,
@N4JAW@mastodon.radio avatar

@KY4ID Several other POTA activators have experienced same issue lately. One on his 1st SSB POTA activation. For me it mostly happens on 40 meters. I've changed frequencies and they follow, I've changed to 30 & 20 meters and they follow. They must be located east of the Mississippi from Canada to the Gulf because it has never happened on 17, 15, 12 or 10 meters.

danielgallagher,

@N4JAW @KY4ID Are you able to share the audio file of the entire activation? I have an idea on how I can identify who is responsible... That definitely sounds like FT8 and I have been seeing someone splattering all over 40 - 20 meters recently. Your recording just happened to isolate what should be needed to extract the data.

N4JAW,
@N4JAW@mastodon.radio avatar

@danielgallagher @KY4ID I thought the same with this one too. One of the hunters said it sounded like FT8 when he heard it during our QSO. I'm got the software which can likely identify it. Have used software in the past to track down 60 hz power line noise.
