Believe it or not, the Nikelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show some fun Star Trek stuff in it. Leonardo's favorite show is called Space Heroes, which is a parody of Star Trek: The Animated Series.

In this case, "PDF file" is a homophone for "pedophile".

For me, it's not image viewers, but websites that take photo uploads. None of them that I've ever used have supported webp, so I always have to convert to png or jpg.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm a technical person, I run Linux as my primary OS and use FOSS software. But I also have a full time job and 2 small kids, and frankly I just don't have the time or patience to be a full time sysadmin. Proton has come a long way in providing alternatives to Gmail, GCalendar, GDrive, etc., but like you said if you want to replace ALL of Google you practically have to self host a gazillion Nextcloud instances or whatever.

I found that even with AdGuard DNS enabled, I still saw promoted posts (ads) using the Reddit app, so I deleted it.

That's been my thought as well. What, exactly, would there be? Are we talking about a whole human body? A fragment like a torso, leg, arm, etc.? My understanding was also that the occupants were vaporized during the implosion.

Testicular torsion. It felt like I was being kicked in the balls every time my heart beat. It was my senior year of college and I was home for the weekend, but my parents were gone and I didn't think I could drive myself to the hospital. Luckily my uncle was around to take me. I dry heaved out the passenger window the entire drive there.

I had barely gotten into the room when the doctor came in and helped me strip down, then proceeded to do what he called the "open book maneuver", wherein he rotated my testicles to remove the twist. The relief was instantaneous, like my balls had been released from a vice grip. Luckily no permanent damage was done, but an ultrasound confirmed that I'd need surgery to prevent future torsions, which I had during spring break... yay.

Space: Above and Beyond. It was a short-lived show on FOX about a group of space marines that are pressed into service against an alien menace, but not everything is as it seems. The show was a a bit of a mashup between Aliens, Blade Runner, and Starship Troopers, and it was awesome. If there was ever a show that needed a remake, it's this one.

I’ve fallen into a deep gaming rut lately. What helped “get you back into” gaming and rediscover the magic of video games?

I, like many gamers, grew up playing Pokémon Red and Nintendo 64 and was obsessed with Nintendo products. I graduated to a PS2 and PS3 and became super into Metal Gear Solid and Call of Duty and Fallout. Also spent a ton of time with the Guitar Hero series. I loved the escape gaming brought me and it genuinely helped me relax....

For starters, getting treated for my depression and anxiety was a huge help. One of the symptoms of depression is losing interest in things you used to find enjoyable, and for me that was video games. After I started going to therapy and taking an SSRI, I got back into video games not by playing the same games I was, but instead I played KOTOR II on my Switch. I hadn't played that game in forever, but found it really enjoyable to just jump back in.

Personally, I think one of the worst things you can do when finding yourself in a gaming rut is to play repetitive grind games like Call of Duty or Destiny or the like.

Another thing I do is limit the amount I play, but this is more involuntary than not due to kids' activities and whatnot. Right now I'm playing Jedi Survivor when I can, but mostly I'm watching my 6 year old daughter play Roblox and help her out when she gets stuck.

For real. I went to Frankfurt am Main a few years ago and it was wonderful. The people were incredibly nice and were very patient as I stumbled my way through broken German and more often than not switched to English.

I get it can be a culture shock to live in a new country where you're not a native speaker and where customs are different, but you can't expect everyone to cater to you.

Red Dead Redemption. When the music starts picking up as you enter Mexico for the first time it was beautiful and something I had never experienced in a video game before.

That's my thought as well. The only game my boomer dad ever played on our old Windows 3.11 Acer PC was some golf game. It was my gen x future brother-in-law that introduced me to shooters like Doom and Quake.

It's because Chrome is so ubiquitous. You go to any Google site, particularly search, in a browser other than Chrome and you're presented with notifications to install Chrome. Plus, its integration with Google accounts presents a great value proposition for many users.

Personally, I was on Firefox for years until I got a MacBook Pro in 2014. For whatever reason, Firefox would constantly crash, so I switched to Chrome. I only went back to Firefox in about... 2019(?) when they released Quantum and I've been on it since. It's really the perfect browser, particularly with extension support. I also like how on Android you can install uBlock Origin.

With Google's impending Manifest V3 looming on the horizon for all Chromium-based browsers, it just further cements my decision to remain on Firefox. I do keep Brave around as backup for the extremely rare situations where something for whatever reason doesn't work in Firefox, but that's becoming exceedingly unnecessary.

As a long time Sync Pro user, I'd absolutely love this. I'd also love for the ability to add a kbin account.

I kinda do both? For some reason, I prefer the CLI when I clone a repo, but Sourcetree for committing, pulling, and pushing, and my IDE's built in git tools for merges.

An Anti-Porn App Put Him in Jail and His Family Under Surveillance (www.wired.com)

On a Wednesday morning in May, Hannah got a call from her lawyer—there was a warrant out for her husband’s arrest. Her thoughts went straight to her kids. They were going to come home from school and their father would be gone. “It burned me,” Hannah says, her voice breaking. “He hasn’t done anything to get his bond...

I don't know which is worse: that this technology exists in the first place, or that a judge in their right mind would sign off on using it to monitor someone. This is a terrifying situation for Hannah's family to be in.

How long does it take, do you know, for Beehaw to approve sign ups? I signed up 3 days ago and have yet to receive a verification email. I originally signed up on lemmy.ml and received verification in about an hour, but ended up deleting that account do that instance's... problematic nature. I'm on sh.itjust.works right now, but would rather be on Beehaw.

I'm in Illinois, USA, and downstate you see mostly United States flags at businesses and residences (and the occasional confederate battle flag hanging at morons' homes).

What's funny, is that when you get up to Chicago, people there mostly fly the city of Chicago flag over any others.

I have a Pixel 7 with a Super Shieldz screen protector and a Peak Design case. I really like the PD case for several reasons:

  • It covers the entire phone with a raised lip around the screen and has a flush back so it sits flat on surfaces
  • I have a Peak Design bike mount that the case magnetically attaches to so I have a secure phone mount while riding my bike
  • The aforementioned magnetic feature makes it work perfectly with MagSafe wireless chargers, essentially giving my phone MagSafe capabilities

I put so many hours into X-Wing on my old i386 Acer running Windows 3.1. I had a sweet Sidewinder joystick and played it constantly. Sure, the graphics were terrible, but it's a game that holds a special place in my heart that I haven't been able to replicate since. Maybe I'll pick up a HOTAS joystick to play with Squadrons to get that feeling back.
