@evan This is one of those things.. IPFS feels like everything we need and more..

I'm just a humble country chicken admin, but I've been thinking a lot about the cost of the fediverse and how we can improve it for all of the instances... in a coop kind of way

The cost of handing all of the media is THE major problem for me atm.

@decryption but yeah.. storage isn't really the problem. It's entirely the bandwidth.

I'm hosted under serversaustralia in equinix ATM... and I'll ask talking with other colo providers soon

because I only need 6U, it generally excludes me from some providers

@decryption This is one of those things.. most "colo" providers are running DCs that have peered backhauls so they're likely not even being charged for my traffic.

They charge me per byte up and down monitored by the switch I'm attached to... because they can

and it's a business decision because as a colo.. the cost of rack space, and power and cooling are all fixed. but bandwidth is a profit center because they can charge whatever they want

Bottom line is... at some point in the next 6 months, I'm going to start talking to a few people about getting a better colo.

@Tubsta @decryption like I mentioned, I'm using serversaustralia atm because I don't want to deal with the routing... they just give me some IPs.

SA don't care about IX.. they just charge me.

If you know somebody who could assist me with a new colo that is slightly better suited, I'd be infinitely thankful.

VMware Fusion/Workstation Pro: Now Available Free for Personal Use

I don't understand why Broadcom would do something good.. but "The text “This product is licensed for personal use only” within the product user interface is not present when a commercial license is used. There are otherwise no functional differences." is pretty great.

I've been paying for both Workstation and Fusion for years! and now I can just stop giving them money!
