Is anybody else using Opengist for self-hosting Gists? I am thinking about hooking it up to my Forgejo.

Multiple posts linking to the same latrine stinking up your feed? URIs and domains also work as filtered phrases.

I tried to upload .m4a and got a 422 error, so I transcoded it to .ogg, which Mastodon transcoded to an mp3 unprompted. I wonder which app Audiophile Fedi uses.

Best place and tool to host a static website for someone who has been happily using Filezilla FTP on Windows since the turn of the century?

Libravatar is a decentralized alternative to Gravatar. I'm self-hosting it with NixOS, Nginx, and DNS records managed by OpenTofu.

ForgeFed nails the current dilemma in open source:

> Without federation, we end up having to choose between:
>
> * Centralizing into huge profit-oriented websites, where we're powerless
> * Hosting our code on a small website where we're in control and freedom but isolated from the community

This is a critically important project.

Experiment: create a personal Git org to archive all the throwaway "repos for repros" where bugs are reproduced.

It's wild to me that somebody at one point thought "there should be six header tags H1, H2, ..." and not "there should be a header tag with a level attribute <H level=1...>"

ross,
@ross@rossabaker.com avatar

@chris__martin Or that the level can't be inferred by how many <h>'s it 's in.

Who called it #NixOS instead of #GarNix?

Yeah that one only works for German speakers. Sorry not sorry.

GitHub boasting "We are re-founded on Copilot" is your reminder to start planning how you're going to port your data that isn't stored in Git itself.

Many American soccer fans prefer Europe's best to MLS, and emotionally invest themselves in a club they can't locate on a map in a country they might not locate on a map. I can respect enjoying the highest level of play.

I prefer college soccer, where only the best players will even make it to MLS, but the crest means something to me. Sticking it to Michigan means more than sticking it to Manchester.

Tonight we stuck it to Michigan. It was glorious.

Conjecture: sportsball rivalries are stupid, but we are inherently tribal. When we have a harmless outlet to discharge those baser instincts with some good natured shitposts about the big game, it helps us pull together on what matters.

Furthermore, Hoosiers, wooooo!

@brian I take no sides in that battle, but when a Big Ten guy knows a D-III trophy, you're doing something right. Love the Monon Bell.

Vote every time they open the doors, but especially vote in the odd-numbered years. Many of your neighbors won't bother, but that guy who chuckled at the Fox News diatribe on the TV at the Culver's sure will. Disappoint him. Vote.

Something has recently changed in the flight patterns. I live near the red plane. Planes are flying in from all directions to line up opposite the airport for their approach. The noise has become constant from evening past midnight.

In Emacs, you can evaluate the current top-level lisp expression with C-M-x. No need to move, mark, etc.
