"When we think of #greenhousegas emissions, we tend to think of tailpipes and factories," said Scott Tiegs, co-author of the study and a professor of biological sciences at Oakland.
"But a lot of carbon dioxide and methane comes from aquatic #ecosystems. This process is natural. But when humans add nutrient #pollution like #fertilizer to fresh waters and elevate water temperatures, we increase the decomposition rates and direct more #CO2 into the atmosphere."

Senator #Menendez appears to be the first sitting member of Congress charged with operating as a foreign agent in violation of #FARA, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and allowing him to remain in the Senate creates a massive national security risk.
For the sake of our national security and our democracy, he must be expelled from the Senate.

As of December 2023, the Federal Election Commission has received 59 complaints alleging that Donald Trump or his committees violated the Federal Election Campaign Act. In 29 of those cases, nonpartisan staff in the FEC’s Office of General Counsel recommended the FEC investigate Trump.
Yet not once has a #Republican#FEC commissioner voted to approve any such investigation or enforcement of the law against Trump, a new CREW analysis found.

While, for a kid (once) like me, who sort of grew up on a motocross bike, doing outlandish speeds on cross-town trails --- they weren't modern multi-use paths but more dirt cow paths…
I guess the point of interest I'm actually pointing to is more a technical borderline that has quietly been overstepped without reaction from the State of California's DOT; Caltrans has no response to the borderline of deadly force being crossed, and seems to want to defer to this as a problems of #parks and #greenspace.
Statistically, I can project deaths will occur over time with those moving masses being driven in those limited dimension spaces. It's just math.
@rexi probably, but the spaces need to be redesigned for the mass and speed of e-bikes as transportation. Speeds like 16mph are just like regular bikes, granted that many pathway design assumptions about hills or power are invalidated, bikeway sight-stopping-distance and other design considerations (that we would never be so lax about with car traffic) are abysmal. The easy path for car brains is just ban e-bikes and let them drive cars, which is the direction most regulations are going here.

a little reminder that left, center and center left parties in Germany made up 52.3% of the vote in election that would lead to the appointment of you-know-who as chancellor.
protest votes only work for for the candidate you're against when there are spoilers on the ballot.
Hey more vote shaming! This is cool and rad! I sure love that we're vote shaming and not advocating for people to organize for political power.
It sure makes great sense that we're vote shaming and not getting upset the party you're vote shaming for is not instituting a policy agenda that would get their voters out! What's even better is they don't advertise all the things they do well when in power that would motivate people to vote and basically abdicate all narratives to their opposition because taking responsibility for their policy decisions is political or whatever
This is great we should continue to shame voters instead of motivating people to engage in the political process or organize ways to exercise political power
@rexi one of the risks with democracy is that it can be ousted with democratic means. And also with less than democratic means, like in Germany after the Reichstag fire, but still on the democratic playing field. As a society we need to address risks to democracy before it has the means to topple it, which can undoubtedly be tough.

“There is a much greater threat to us all that we need to be focused on. If you’re having a progressive and centrist go against each other in an open seat, that’s one thing, but to start taking shots at your own is a dangerous precedent and I don’t think we need to fall into that trap this cycle.”
