Science fiction fan, native New Yorker, living in Boston with two partners of different genders, and two cats. Still masking & staying home a lot because the MS drug interferes with Covid vaccines. I miss traveling, live theatre, and in-person socializing, but I like breathing.

I'm redbird on Dreamwidth, and sometimes I still miss Usenet (rec.arts.sf.fandom and alt.polyamory).

It looks as though carbon dioxide concentration isn't just a proxy measurement for ventilation: an article in Nature says that higher CO2 is an independent risk factor, because pH levels affect how long the virus lives in the air.

The city of #Boston is now running free #covid #vaccine clinics, for the 2023-24 (monovalent) vaccine. Right now there are locations so far: Thursday-Saturday afternoons in Nubian Square, and Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoobs at City Hall: https://www.boston.gov/government/cabinets/boston-public-health-commission/covid-19-vaccine-boston

It's free, but they're asking people to register ahead of time.

Poll time. This poll is for people in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. And this is about where people get their medical care and how governments behave, so geolocation matters.

Q: At ANY point to now, has ANY medical professional/organization you are a patient of provided you with written guidance on how to TREAT (NOT PREVENT) #Covid at home? Like a handout or an email or...?

Feel free to elaborate on your answer in comments. If you can share the document (s), that would be great.

@siderea I think my GP's office gave us some advice about treating covid in 2020, when they couldn't offer much but rest, stay hydrated, and when to call for medical help. (A small family practice in Somerville, if that's relevant.)

UPDATE: WE GOT PAXLOVID! Your inputs worked. Thank you!!

#LongCovid #Covid19 friends, I need urgent help:

wife tested positive for covid. It's bad. Online Doc refused to prescribe #Paxlovid citing she's <50yrs. Said LongCovid isn't real and pretty much gaslit the thing.

PCP offices are closed.

CVS w/o prescription requires labwork that we don't have handy.

The blockers in the US #healthcare are systemic.

In GA, how might we get Paxlovid? Any ideas?

@upol If the online doctor you already tried isn't "Dr. B," give them a try: https://hidrb.com/faq They have doctors license in every state, and charge $15 for your appointment.

The FDA has approved a monovalent covid vaccine virus for fall 2023, targeting the XBB omicron variant. This is the same vaccine the EU and WHO have decided on.

In addition to the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines, the non-mRNA Novavax vaccine has been approved. That may appeal to people who "don't trust" mRNA vaccines, as well as people who had a bad reaction to either mRNA vaccine.
