Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor, Volume Two is the forty-first book in the directory.

https://www.ndhfilms.com/other/ellison/index.php#dreamcorridor_2

The Dream Corridor includes comic book adaptations of Ellison's work. The standout adaptation is One Life, Furnished In Early Poverty, a haunting work of sf (art by Paul Chadwick). Other highlights include Gnomebody (art by Green Lantern creator Martin Nodell), The Silver Corridor (art by Gene Ha), and The Man on the Juice Wagon (art by Richard Corben).

I have cleaned up the directory. Now the list of story titles and the section of story titles match up. There are 360 titles in the directory as of today, including essays, short stories, screenplays, novels, and book introductions. This is somewhere between 21% and 33% of Harlan Ellison's total work.

Check it out now! https://ndhfilms.com/ellison

nantucketebooks,
@nantucketebooks@fosstodon.org avatar

The question I'm coming up against is: do I count the introductions Ellison wrote for each short story as a separate work? I would be inclined to say no, but in Dangerous Visions, the introductions are almost full essays in their own right.

If you're an Ellison fan, let me know what you think.

If you are a fan of Ellison's work, please consider volunteering to write entries for the directory. You will be credited!

Here's some books that have not been entered yet:

  • The Starlost: Phoenix Without Ashes
  • Can & Can'tankerous
  • Night and the Enemy
  • Blood's a Rover
  • An Edge in My Voice

1989's Macintosh SE/30L is remembered as one of Apple's biggest flops. MacWorld criticised its rotated L display as "...bringing all of the issues and none of the benefits of a true L display", while MacWeek called it "Some kind of deranged P display nobody asked for".

Troublemakers is the fortieth book in the directory.

This short story collection from 2001 was targeted at the Young Adult demographic. It includes some of Harlan Ellison's most popular stories: "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman, On the Downhill Side, Djinn, No Chaser, and Jeffty is Five.

Hand-writing an epub is gonna turn me into one of those em-dash weirdos

nantucketebooks,
@nantucketebooks@fosstodon.org avatar

@ahelwer Are you hand-writing an epub just for the experience?

nantucketebooks,
@nantucketebooks@fosstodon.org avatar

@ahelwer I was just thinking you may find it easier to translate it into a markup language and then parse it into epub. That's what I do for my e-books, only the end result is HTML.

nantucketebooks,
@nantucketebooks@fosstodon.org avatar

@ahelwer @jake I use my own markup language, Shanty, and my own parser, Arrowhead. https://nantucketebooks.com/shantydocs No support for math equations right now.

The world does not need more reusable water bottles. And that’s a stupid term anyways, you can “reuse” almost any old “disposable” water bottles! Theres several orders of magnitude more energy inputs into a hydro flask bottle than a Aquafina bottle you decided to refill at the water fountain.

Harlan Ellison gives one of the greatest non-answers of all time in this episode of his commentary series. At the time, Chistopher Priest had published The Last Deadloss Visions, about Ellison's failure to deliver a third volume of his Dangerous Visions series. Ellison had been claiming for decades that it was almost ready for print.

Even Ellison's evasions and dodges were remarkable to behold.

If you are an informed, intelligent, compassionate, in-any-way-science-literate person, how are you coping with living through these times? What's helping?

No snark, please. I'm interested in sincere, practical answers.

nantucketebooks,

@ShaulaEvans That's a good question. What helps me is to try to make my world smaller. There so many things in this world that are out of my control, so I'm going to focus on the things that are within my control.
