Why must smoke alarms always decide to start low-battery chirping at 4am?

I would definitely pay extra for one with a small back up battery and a real time clock that would only low-battery chirp between 9am and 9pm.

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix mine are also hard wired and they still chirp!

linux_mclinuxface,

@tripplehelix it’s such a hassle at that point just throw a new 9v in it.

:sigh:

In the world, is so misunderstood.

There was a video comparing the Sovol (GPL3) to a Troodon kit. The creator concluded that one place the SV08 definitively had a leg up was that it was open source.

About a week later the same creator posted a google drive link with the STEP file for the Troodon saying "Look, Troodon is open source."

Open up the STEP file in FreeCAD and the license metadata: "All rights reserved."

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix it is not.

I’m somewhat split on this one: does Formbot not know how open source works? Did they just not know this field exists in the metadata?

Is this intentional (making it a blatant violation of Voron’s license)?

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix and it was a single file, no license file.

You could distribute open source via Google Drive, but you’d still need the license file. It would be very weird, but you could.

I've been reviewing the #Valkey docs before publishing them. They were inherited from that other project and the neglect is pretty wild.

Here is my favourite so far.

A linked example that has been public for 14+ years with a note that it's been broken since 2010 (because of Chrome 6).

😳

My first article in #Fedora magazine on moving to #Valkey has been published!

You should check it out if you're currently on #Redis and looking to move to something with an #OpenSource future.

@MLE_online I’m not a bike person but it seems like the ergonomics are flawed on those.

Nobody makes butter dishes which are specific to west coast sticks. They're all either designed without even realizing west coast sticks exists, or they're slightly larger than east coast sticks and you can kind of cram west coast sticks into it with a lot of wasted space on the ends.

linux_mclinuxface,
@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

@foo this is worse in western Canada.

95% of the butter in stores in are basically 4 east coast sticks stacked together 2x2. You can but “normal” sticks but it’s usually only fancier/organic/speciality stuff and 30ish% more expensive.

Most people just clumsily cut it into 4 equal east coast-ish sticks and store the remaining Tetris shape in the fridge.

I’ve not found a proper butter dish for large chunks we have.

If I ran a 2nd hand marketplace (Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, eBay, Craigslist, etc) I would ban the word "rare" from all listings.

Also, all caps (except proper nouns) would automatically push your listing to the bottom of all results.

What would your rules be?

With the #wildfire smoke in #yeg this weekend, I pulled the air purifiers up from the basement.

Does anyone know how the filters work for these? As in is there some sort of standard or does each manufacturer make unique?

I have a couple of Instant (as in Instant Pot) brand filters and they work well. But filters seem to be stupid expensive: 55CAD per filter. I think the original purifier was only 80CAD.

There similar looking/sized filters for half the price, but not sure if they'll work.

linux_mclinuxface,

@tripplehelix yeah, i may need to do some research.

It’s pretty nuts that it costs that much. It really seems like it’s only a few bucks worth of materials, but like so many things it’s not the material cost…

So @hackaday spent 443 characters in describing (and apologizing for) the license of BTstack when it could have said "BTstack is not #OpenSource".

I typically like/trust what @tomnardi is doing, but this was a miss.

@MLE_online Dang. I'm fascinated.

I read a few forum posts indicating that there are heating elements on the outside of the drum meaning you have rotating ~300f glass cylinder that you somehow have to safely extract to serve.

@masukomi @cults3d no, I was just wondering if you did it for a specific reason. Felt like it might have been purposeful, not just decorative.
