@cincura_net Good isn't it. I've been doing this for a few years now. It's been a game changer for me. Works on Windows and Linux (dunno about Mac).

Usually have the portrait monitor split into thirds: voice/IM client, Obsidian, and music/video player. No more wasted space.

@cincura_net Yeah, it's not the best for entering information. But works for me as a control panel of sorts, and the 16:9 ratio is maintained when the taskbar is off.

I do occasionally bring up a browser window in 2/3 height for detailed stuff. Can always do that permanently and use the 1/3 to switch between lighter stuff. Either way, it's flexible.

    HomeBank is an excellent cross-platform alternative. It's open source, your data stays local, can import OFX (and other) files, and it's just like the Quick Books of old.

    I've been using it ever ever since QB ditched the UK market.

    SINCERE INQUIRY: Is there truly a “middle” in politics positionally or ideologically? I think the notion of a “middle” (whatever that is—because, strangely enough for me, that doesn’t necessarily mean between left and right)—is mostly mythological. I’d like one to genuinely entertain this.

    @popcornreel It's fashionable to declare centrists (in the right vs far right choices most countries today) as somehow being worse. There's some merit in that.

    But the problem is polarisation. Dubya's insane "If you're not for us, then you're against us."

    No. The Argument of Excluded Middle is a logical fallacy for a reason.

    You don't have to "both sides"/fence sit a position. But you need to be able to see the intent in the non-bonkers sides of both arguments to make sense of it all.

    I've found another online store that respects the price I've set on print copies of my books.

    Has anyone ever heard of bookshop.org? Anything good or bad to say about them?

    I found my books on it recently and the site has good reviews online, so I've added bookshop.org links to the list that shows up when you click on one of my books2read links.

    @OwenTyme @bookstodon I use the uk.bookshop.org quite a bit. Sometimes because I'm ordering a book I don't want a major retailer involved, but mostly because it's keeping brick and mortar bookshops alive.

    So far (10 or so), the delivery has been a few working days, and occasionally I'll get a handwritten "thanks" note included.

    It's better than saving a few quid to maybe get a battered (if at all) book delivered from the smiling behemoth who'll do their worst if there's a problem.

    I've always worked it out as : if there is more than one person involved and you reduce the statement down to just you, then it's obvious:

    • ...lent a bike to me.
    • ...I cycled to the beach.

    Thinking back on my pre- experience, when "social media" took off, my engagement was little different to the shitlords who enjoy their status on those media. Economics says you get what you incentivise for.

    But since starting this account, and others on other Fediverse sites (, , , etc), I've really got into the groove of being positive, ignoring or downplaying the negative.

    It's how I want the Internet to be. Be (as in YOU) the change you want to see.

    Apparently, Ryan Barrett @snarfed.org@snarfed.org, an engineer/developer, is about to connect a bridge between Mastodon (Fediverse) and Bluesky.

    Of note the bridge is OPT-OUT. That is, your content will be automatically bridged to Bluesky, UNLESS you OPT-OUT.

    So how do you opt-out? You have to DM Ryan Barnett at @snarfed, email him (somehow), file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.

    This month: The one company with rights over #ADHD medication in the UK don't produce enough, blames it on packaging logistics and increase in diagnosis.

    In both cases: "It's not our fault", it can't be legally obtained anywhere, lives are damaged or at risk, and the "cost" to the #monopoly is a bit of hand-waving in the press. It's appalling.
