This caught me off guard in #MySQL. The following query works as expected:

set weight = 70, height = 175  
where fname = 'Adam' and lname = 'Smith'  

This one sets weight to 0 and doesn't modify height. Can you tell why?

It was surprisingly easy to port all my custom fish and git config to home manager. The next big thing I need to figure out is how to manage multiple java versions and assign their directory to environment vars. Small instances make the #fediverse better and more resilient. On my single-user instance, happily hosted and managed by @mastohost I am my own admin and the only user. This gave me a lot of insight into the power of instance admins and the creepy ways we admins can implement blocks with zero transparency to our users. This level of power needs a lot responsibility. Instances with more or less anonymous admins that act in intransparent ways — it's really a problem, IMHO.

Wissenswert: Eure Bank wird euch nicht per E-Mail oder SMS zur Aktualisierung eurer Daten/Passwörtern/Installation von Apps auffordern.

#UnpopularOpinion Running your own #Mastodon instance really isn’t that big a thing. If you can work with WordPress — you’re set, IMHO. Book your instance as a service, so you don’t have to care about the complicated parts. I am a happy and proud customer of @mastohost. Do it for yourself and, say, max 5 friends or family members. I guess I should write a blog entry on how we work with our small instances to show you it’s really not magic.

I wish RubyGems had some kind of "org owner" type thing. There are gems effectively owned by previous employers, but nobody on the owners list works there anymore. Fortunately current employees are able to reach former employees, but this seems like a fragile system

I’m currently paying them $11.90 a month to host my homeserver on their EMS platform.

My payment in April will have been the last.

It’s one thing to provide FLOSS comms to the government. It’s another to proudly support our fucked up police system.

I have to admit that #Elk (@elk) is a pretty neat #Mastodon client if you're looking for a Twitter-like experience.

Feels very snappy and has all the feature I need. A few glitches with regards to auto-completion of tags and accounts, but I'm confident that the developers will fix those before the first non-alpha release.

Maybe #GoToSocial (@gotosocial) are a good combination for self-hosting. 🤔
