Here's a recent music release I've been enjoying: Unreal Tournament Redux, a 2-hour long full album of remixes of the Unreal Tournament 1999 soundtrack. It's free to download, too!

I was a huge fan of the original UT, and its soundtrack, which was a fast-paced techno/acid sort of thing, perfect for running around and blasting your friends into bloody pieces. Ahhhh, I miss the days of modding that game.

For a free, open source vector illustrator, Inkscape is really good... but it has one missing feature that seems like such a no-brainer that I've never understood why they haven't included it.

You can't edit bezier curves while you're drawing them.

If you make a mistake while drawing a curve, you can't fix it; it's frozen in place. Your only recourse is to delete the last node and do it again, or keep drawing the curve wrongly, then go back and fix it after. And sometimes, the second option is your only option if you can't get the curve to go where you want it.

It's such a bizarrely broken experience with such an easy fix. Just allow the user to select and move nodes and handles that have already been placed. GIMP implements this perfectly well and it's not even a vector editor.

I just wanted to offer my own words of tribute to Bram Moolenaar, creator of the Vim text editor, who died this week.

I first learned Vim around 10 years ago, after an embarrassing incident at work where I was trying to fix a remote server problem over SSH with the boss watching, and the only text editor available was Vim - which I had no clue how to use.

I resolved after that to learn and familiarize myself with Vim so that I wouldn't be caught out again. And, like so many have, I eventually came to love this weird relic of the green screen era. Vim's notion of text is unique, and this gives you a kind of control that just isn't in the wheelhouse of regular text editors. It's one of the things that makes Vim popular even to this day, and I have a Vim buffer open pretty much permanently for my various projects and note-taking.

RIP Bram.

After @edchdx alerted me to the existence of Micro, a terminal text editor with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality, I decided to give it a try in place of Vim for a couple of weeks. And it's pretty good! It's very responsive, uses intuitive commands, keeps its help feature close by so that users don't get lost, and it looks nice too. It also handles very large files well, which is always a bonus for developers.

I don't think it will replace Vim for me, but I think it's certainly nice to have if you do a lot of stuff in terminal.
