Here's how to work with custom builds with Copr CLI! Just one part of a series of videos that @FrostyX is making about this @fedoracpt tool. :)

A very interesting #plugin #vendor asks me about a recommendation for a #reliable #laptop with a super #stable #operatingsystem as a base to be able to reliably package their plugins for #linux. What would you recommend? Maybe something like a #starfighter or a #framework or something more mainstream like a #thinkpad and probably running #ubuntu or #fedora? They are completely new to #linuxaudio but willing to go all in. ✨🌟

fedora,

@amadeus here's a list of hardware that ships or supports Fedora. Framework is great and so is Slimbook, for which most of their laptops offer Fedora out of the box.

For World Autism Awareness Day, we want to highlight Open Autism, a group dedicated to developing open source software specifically for autistic users and the people who support them.

Many of us know how important it is to have free and open source options for our technology needs, and autistic needs are no different.

The Community Operations team is restarting in a big way after a 5 year hiatus! CommOps will be a team focused on facilitating the community's goals outside of engineering. You can be a part of the community architecture of Fedora!

If you're interested in contributing, fill out the poll below by Thu, Apr 11 to find a time to have the first meeting:

This is a very cool and easy to follow story of one person's personal needs for their server.

They start with assuming they stability as high as RHEL with consistent versioning, but over time containers erases that concern so they are freed up to think about other nice things like having newer software.

If you've wondered why people use Fedora Server when CentOS and RHEL exist, this is one reason!

I love my new setup (Fedora and KDE plasma)
It all feels so nice and clean. and new.
And smooth.

Too bad I'm only gonna use it once a week :(

Oh, and Powershell. I love powershell.
It's my default shell now.

fedora,

@kohelet we hope it delights you once a week!

🚨 ⚠️ Emergency PSA: A critical security exploit was discovered in the xz package recently, used for compression and decompression on nearly all Linux distributions.

Rawhide users ARE impacted and should immediately STOP using Rawhide until the package update is fully rolled back. (1/3)

Security Advisory: https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/urgent-security-alert-fedora-41-and-rawhide-users

fedora,

The vulnerability may be present in Fedora 40 but it is not believed to be activated. Fedora 40 users are advised to use caution and update their systems soon when the rolled-back version is available, for more certainty.

Fedora 39 and 38 users are not impacted. (2/3)

Security Advisory: https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/urgent-security-alert-fedora-41-and-rawhide-users

fedora,

More details available from Red Hat's blog on the vulnerability. A special, huge thank-you to our first responders and Fedora friends who have been working long hours to address this issue in top-priority. We couldn't do it without you all! 💪 (3/3)

The Fedora Linux 40 Beta has released! Please help us with testing your favorite spin (if you're able too)!

fedora,

@arix that change proposal was withdrawn within a couple of months when it came in. No revised proposal has been brought forward so this is not on the docket as of today.

Testing opportunities keep rolling in. Next up, Linux Kernel 6.8!

Find the instructions for how to help with testing below.

Linux Kernel Test Days run from Mar 24-31.

Kubernetes is a household name in the cloud native world. OKD is a community distribution of Kubernetes, and you can run it locally with CRC! Great for playing with a more rounded out container platform than what Kubernetes does on its own.

The team behind the new Anaconda web UI installer is looking for more community feedback. If you're interested, read the latest update and discuss in this thread!
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/feedback-anaconda-web-ui-partitioning/108995

Unfortunately the new installer will be postponed to Fedora 41, but this is a chance to look at what else needs work so that we can be confident enough to push this out to users. If you're interested in contributing to Fedora, this may be a good place to do so.

Startup company Playtron is looking to be the default OS for future handheld PCs to rival Windows... but they're doing it with Fedora Atomic Desktops!
https://www.theverge.com/24090470/playtron-gaming-os-linux-handhelds-exclusive

Seems like it's early days and not a sure thing, but they are in talks with hardware vendors like Ayaneo.

It's great to see Fedora Atomic helping to pave the way for free and open source operating systems on handheld PCs!
