GPT-4V(ision) Unsuitable for Clinical Care and Education: A Clinician-Evaluated Assessment

Another evidence that LLMs and generative "AI" in general were just overhyped and overinflated by Microsoft and others. What was sounding horrifying and threatening for the people's jobs and work positions on the one hand and on the other as a new "neverseen breakthrough" for humanity, ended up as just a product of agressive PR, the same as crypto and web 3.0 a few years back, the same as any further potential bloated promises to raise the profits and sell more exaggerated innovations.

Recycling Doesn’t Work—and the Plastics Industry Knew It

And here we go about the waste.. As I have said many times, recycling plastic is not a solution, but rather a convenient distraction and a way to shift the responsibility of large companies for mass production of plastic onto the shoulders of the people. There are some very disturbing news that recycling is not going to help in a long run and there is only 5-6% of collected plastics estimated as being recycled (!). On the other hand, the poorest countries and regions suffer the most from toxic waste products and landfills, because this brings the greatest profit, and if this is still the case, the problem will never be solved.

We need more trade-free goods and services that can be designed from the scratch to reduce the waste, instead of generation the endless profit or competition advantage. In this way, more devices and products that are reusable, free to use, repairable, and durable can benefit our Planet's environment and Human society as a whole.

Although I don't use Plasma, I use XFCE with TROMjaro, I congratulate KDE for this release and the work they've done over the years. XFCE, KDE, and the like, are not competitors, but diversity in choices. That's how we should operate as a society, do not compete, but collaborate and create diversity. So I like to use XFCE, but others prefer KDE, and some others Gnome, and so forth. Nice! We are all happy! #opensource #foss #kde #plasma #linux

esh,

@tio 100% agree, brother! I personally like #Plasma the most out of all DE's, but as you said, it is just a matter of choice, but I actually embrace that all the projects may provide something unique and pleasing to everyone and that should not be a matter for the competition at all.

I also admire #KDE as a community of Humans with a pure drive to deliver not only completely free desktop environment, but a huge pack of outstanding #free-software (which is a #KDEGear and a part of that #MegaRelease6)), including #Krita, #kdenlive, #Gwenview and many many others.. And all of that is completely free to use, awesomeness ☺️

If, whoever is reading this, you are already using #kde-software or just share the cause, you may consider helping the community by becoming a member with a donation or, if you like, just join and contribute to the software, report bugs, translate documentation and many more!

Kudos to the #KDE Team! 😎

Offshoring emissions through used vehicle exports

This is why it is almost impossible to solve climate problems without entire humanity effort. There are always the poor countries to sweep those issues under their carpet, which, of course, are happy to buy a cheap shit, since nobody there can afford anything else. It is the same with the garbage and waste, by the way. But this harmful practice is completely "normal" in our society, because it is just the trade, a pillar of the economies..

We need more trade-free resources and services, which can be naturally focused on making our environment better and not making business profitable and also can be adopted by the less developed countries since it is absolutely free to use.

esh,

@tio I think, the article basically says that there are tons of ways to manipulate the "reduction of the CO2 emissions" for a particular country (GB is a researched country, but there are entire regions like US, EU, Japan) by selling polluting used cars to other countries that have no proper climate change regulation standards. Which is why you cannot solve the problem by just agreeing with the "most rich countries" about some standards and thus solve the climate change. Trade opportunities will always find a way..

esh,

@tio Yes, and after that some countries will report that they fixed the issue, look at our numbers 🤦‍♂️
We have one Planet ffs, we cannot keep throwing shits to the others' fans and expect the pieces of it will never return back.

‘The Gospel’: how Israel uses AI to select bombing targets in Gaza

And here we are, folks, using the modern tech to kill people more effectively. Don't forget to ask the chatgpt which people of what part of the world deserve to be anihilated today, while consuming your morning coffee..

And yeah, there's something utterly disgusting and barbaric in naming their war AI in the name of religion, the holy crusades are back..

Crazy, fucked up world we live in..

What you see on this picture is a first ever made image of the multi-planetary system made by ESO's Very Large Telescope (SPHERE instrument). Those two dots marked with the arrows are the planets rotating around the Sun-like star in Musca constellation (other dots are background stars that also have been captured in the image).

Imagine that for a second.. There's absolutely another, but yet similar world somewhere out there in 310 light years away from us and we, Humans, have an opportunity to have a glimpse on it. This is truly mesmerizing if you think about it. What else we can achieve together in collaboration? What other mysteries and unimaginable worlds can be discovered? What varieties of the life forms and environments we can observe in the vast Universe?

I've been thinking about it recently.. We don't even need to go that far, look at our own solar system, for example. Take Venus, this completely weird world located not that far away from our home and yet so different. One day on it lasts around 243 Earth's days, a temperature of the surface can reach 464 degrees of Celcius and there are the rains there.. made of the sulphuric, fucking, acid 🤯 Of course it's deadly for us, Humans, but just imagine that it is our closest neighbour and it's so unhinged. And Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto.. all those moons.. all are so diverse! Incredible cosmos and yet so vicious world we live in, with so much of unnecesary suffering, wars, poverty and famine.. all for the sake of The Cult of Trade.

Never forget to look above and dream, folks!

Annular Solar Eclipse "Ring of Fire" hits the North America continent.

Watch it live at NASA's official broadcast: youtu.be/LlY79zjud-Q

esh,

@tio Yup, mesmerizing.. And even the fact that these exact parameters - the sizes of the Moon and the Sun and the distances between them and Earth, allow to observe full or annular eclipses from the surface how they are, is so unique to our planet. There's no other planet in our solar system which allows to see such a perfect coverage of the sun by its moon or moons.

esh,

@tio Yeah, I've seen one, but only partial. It was still surreal tho, seeing how it becomes way darker in the mid of the day 🤯 And you?

A mesmerizing image of the protostar by JWST

This Herbig-Haro 211 (HH 211) object image depicts a Class 0 protostar in the state that our Sun could be when it was a few tens of thousands of years old.

I was thinking recently how fascinating is the fact that something beautiful and unique like our Earth can be born out of probably one of the most powerful, horrific and destructive events in the Universe - a Supernova. Indeed, the scale of those events isn't even comparable with what we experience in everyday life. Any of these happening relatively close to us and everything we know would be annihilated within the seconds.. Another reminder how fragile our world is and what unique opportunity we have here, simply wasting it on meaningless fights, trades, money..

Welcome to planet Earth:

Instead of us killing the cancer cells, or explore the Earth and outer space, humans are dragged into pointless conflicts that in the end amount to nothing. Shame!

esh,

@tio Absolutely mindblowing fuckup it is.. Indeed the human imagination's so powerful to invent fictious values to justify the unreasonable conflicts, instead of using all its potential to make unimaginable progress and conquer new horizons.

Great video @thelinuxEXP ! I totally agree that the modern ad-bloated internet is unusable and it will definitely become worse. It is great you demonstrate alternative federated networks and actively use those to share your content too, thank you for that. This is also a very good that you emphasize that YouTube content (or any other content) has never been free and it has always been in return for your data and attention (ads). That is a really good analysis, but I would also like to encorage you to look even beyond that, on the root-cause of this urge for profits, which eventually ruins everything - the incentive to trade. We have to build a society, which fulfills at least basic needs for the people for surviving in this world, so they can have more time to create something meaningful, share with others and enjoy what they are doing (including creating more content they like for the alternative platforms), rather than dying at somewhat jobs just to have food and shelter.

There are TROM project and @tio, who has been arguing for more than 10 years already that The TRADE is the origin of the most problems humanity faces today and that we have to oppose ever-increasing persuit of profit. They recenly released a 5 hours long documentary, describing this problem in great details and discussing the possible solutions to it, such as trade-free movement. I would like to gratefully ask you to spend a bit of your time on it and help to spread the word, since it seems like you are not indifferent to the future of the internet and, I am sure, to the future of humanity too.

TROM II: A Message to the Aliens (2023)

Ok people, the documentary is finally available. Please keep your expectations low and keep in mind that this documentary is made mostly by one human being, with limited resources. We have not used any stock footage (except maybe 2-3) so everything you'll see is real and genuine.

Also, keep in mind that this is not the beginning or the end of anything, but a continuation of our work for this TROM project. We will create more materials and projects.

Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation

This is a very disturbing report about decreasing level of social communication between people in US for almost two decades which shows that amount of time humans spend there with each other in person decreased almost up to 70% (!) and keeps running down. And this is not even about the COVID years, though it only accelerated this process.

The loneliness and falling out of the social participation very negotively affects health, mental stability, increases the risks of strokes, dementia, unexpected death in old age.

All this only emphasizes what a ruined society mankind has been building for itself throughout these years. The only answer goverments have to this is to create another ministery to do the "patchworking" on top of the broken system (please welcome the "minister of loneliness" from Japan).

This society mastered providing so much shit to consume and advertise to people to think that all of that crap is what they really need and dreamed about, instead of organizing a healthy environment with easy access to the things of basic need, freeing them to care for and to interact with who are really important for Humans: the other Humans. It is time to stop being just the consumers and to learn what is it like to be Humans again and what we really need.
