LBT: Apple very deliberately went with “your next computer isn’t a computer” as a strategy and now they sell a computer and a “not a computer” and everyone is scratching their heads.

@geordie nah, Millennials know there's little computer and Big Computer tasks and you need both.

Doing my photo deletes for today's date, and happened across this one from 23 April 2022. Off to Fiji! Ah pandemic-era overseas travel, what fun.

@timrichards photo deletes by day is a fantastic idea!

Crikey I did 10,000 steps yesterday. Pretty good for a day largely devoted to presenting travel writing talks at libraries.

Lots of walking in the towns though, from train stations and to libraries etc; eg I had time to kill before my Mooroopna talk, so I did some writing in the local pub, had a pizza then walked to the local library.

Being very atypical in actually walking around country towns rather than driving, I know. :)

elzbethmrgn,
@elzbethmrgn@aus.social avatar

@timrichards the best thing about living in my country town is I can get everywhere I need to get on foot. If you're not interested in accessing any sort of non-internet based cultural experience, small country towns are excellent 15 minute cities

My new Medicare card has a little "40 years of Medicare" logo on it which is very sweet but also reminds me we are of a similar age and brokenness.

Apparently Corowa is hosting the 50th anniversary shindig of the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia (an organisation I just learned about) in April so I better see some of you plane nerds in my town.

"We should celebrate Australia Day on March 3rd" is the best of the takes about Australia's national celebration, but a better yet take is a four day work week. Why do we have a national day of celebration?

elzbethmrgn,
@elzbethmrgn@aus.social avatar

@timrichards it's the day the Australia Acts came into effect that made us independent of the British Parliament. @geordie

    My neighbours happened upon me at my workplace a few weeks ago:

    N: Elizabeth?
    Me: Yes?
    N: Hi!
    Me: Yesss?
    N: we're you're neighbours?
    Me, frantically searching memory: Yeeeesssss?
    N, explaining which house
    Me: Ah, yes!

    We've been neighbours for at least five years. Still couldn't pick them out of a lineup, could tell you exactly when it's going to rain based on how many days their washing has been on the line.

    Endometriosis: new Australian longitudinal research, which looked into multiple symptoms of endometriosis, was the first of its kind in the country,

    “Other symptoms included bowel and urinary conditions, severe tiredness, difficulty sleeping, allergies, heart palpitations and headaches,” Dr Gete said.

    “These broad range symptoms along with a tendency to normalise and dismiss period pain meant diagnosis took between 7 and 11 years on average.”

    @kcarruthers The wild number of things not right with me that were suddenly fixed after my adenomyosis (similar to endometriosis) surgery is mind blowing, all of them tiny little things in themselves the cumulative effects were disabling, and all of which seemed to be linked to my dodgy uterus

    fifteen years of marriage results in my leaning over to whisper in my husband's ear that there's washing on the line and can he please deal with it so I can hang the next load, and in no way is any of this a euphemism.

    Many weeks ago @geordie posted a roadworks notice sign that said 'get hype' and my child was thoroughly disgusted with this millenial 'humour' when I showed her. So as you can imagine, 'get hype' is now a regular part of my speech.
    Nugs for dinner, get hype!
    I'm picking you up from work tomorrow, get hype!
    Your turn to do the dishes, get hype!

    Thank you for these precious parenting moments, Geordie.
