After several months of Mastodon I can say that it perfectly replaced Twitter for me (it's even better). The only thing I still miss is a full text search.

dzamir,
@dzamir@mastodon.uno avatar

@emix same here! The missing piece for me was the fact that I could use my favorite Twitter client Tweetbot, but now that I’ve have Ivory I can’t think going back

I don't see it mentioned enough times but Fork is one of the best git clients around imo, lightweight, simple and it just works. Win & Mac, free to try and one time purchase. https://git-fork.com/

@nicklockwood it's not the same, your is FOR MEN, therefore your wife can't use it.

    one small shipping update on the wizard zines store: If you're outside of the US and you just want to buy 1 printed zine (like https://wizardzines.com/zines/integers-floats/?utm_source=mastodon), now there's a "letter mail" shipping option at checkout! It's untracked but it's a lot cheaper than the tracked shipping.

    dzamir,
    @dzamir@mastodon.uno avatar

    @b0rk I don’t see the option when using Apple Pay and ordering from Italy

    dzamir,
    @dzamir@mastodon.uno avatar

    @b0rk I think 11 € is absolutely fair for Italy. The only problem is the shipping prices that is >20$

    uliwitness, to swift
    @uliwitness@chaos.social avatar

    I’ve done nearly 30 years of C/C++ by now, and probably 20 years of Objective-C. So usually, that's my baseline for programming. These languages don't hurt, they're just “how programming is”. Better languages are “oh cool I get to have fun”.

    That said, I recently wrote some new Objective-C code and … actually wanted to go back to Swift. Those square brackets really are a downside of the language. The Swift-style of method call syntax is superior.

    dzamir,
    @dzamir@mastodon.uno avatar

    @uliwitness same here, had to go back to Objective-C for a day, thinking I could have some fun, but nearly instantly missed Swift

    So much DevOps-y stuff uses Go that I should really just sit down and learn it. But I just don’t want to for some reason. I think what I lack is a specific project wherein learning the language is an unavoidable roadblock to get to the goal.

    Trying to better understand git. So, we have a project with branches: main, foo, baz. Over time, 'baz' gets merged into main and pushed to Github. An issue tracker that doesn't allow multiple assignees on a single issue is imo actively working against teams trying to collaborate.

    GitLab has understood that, Github as well 👍. Linear.app and Jira still haven't 💔

    dzamir,
    @dzamir@mastodon.uno avatar

    @niklas "but issues should only be worked from one person”

    yeah, probably it’s true in a lot of cases, but not having this feature is just stupid.

    And what about pair programming? Or issues in a monorepo where persons with different skills must work together before merging (e.g. frontend+backend)?
