Any idea why PostgreSQL is this much slower compared to SQLite and MySQL?

This is on Ubuntu 24.04, connecting through Django and I've tried both psycopg and psycopg2, but the result is the same: ~200 requests per second with Postgres compared to ~2000 with SQLite or MySQL.

@anze3db @frank It’s not unheard of that certain queries have weird performance characteristics on Postgres. I would say dig out the queries and look at EXPLAIN / use a service that analyzes it.

Trying out -sans-PowerPack, so far so good. (Been a decade since I last used it ~= "new user”…)

Once I added documents to its default search (no I don't want to do the ' thing) it can find my microwave manual PDF!

When I tell it I want to open "Documents", it opens ~/Documents, not some empty, unused "Documents" folder buried in a random app-related location! Wow!

Spotlight devs: see? was that so hard? Alfred's even using /your/ fucking metadata index to do this!

Every time DaVinci Resolve shows a green half-triangle or a weird moiré or some CGA-looking pattern instead of my video source, I have a good thought for the people who claim you can just be "really careful with C++" and avoid memory safety issues.

@fasterthanlime The weird thing is that it did that to me in OTHER apps too (like video elements in Safari), so I’ve kinda concluded the system might be running out of video RAM or something? Any other explanation is too scary.

I was thinking to replace my Yeti X by some fancy shotgun to improve my sound and get it out of the picture but your reasoning to get a podcaster mic and “eat it” applies 100% to me too and I think you saved me a bunch of euros there)

I was thinking lapel too but I wonder if I can match the quality of the Yeti X… wouldn’t want to spend money to downgrade. Does “sound decent” mean “my new setup” or “new useful alternative”? I would visually check your videos but I’m traveling rn. 😅

@jack Immigration + security were nice indeed (wakes up “just tourist?” stamps snoozes off again), but man re-checking your bag is a wild goose-chase if you don’t know how. In the US you at least just drop it on a belt next to the exit.

Also, I have like 2x the leg space on my 2h flight vs my 12h one. 😩

It suddenly occurs to me that tremendous amounts of programmer culture are just various, mostly-failed attempts at managing the work associated with keeping pace with a changing world. Specifically: SemVer, LTSes, “commercial support” funding models for OSS, Win32’s “Old New Thing”-style compatibility, SaaS interface versioning, and, arguably, the popularity of the x86/amd64 architectures themselves are all aspects of a fantasy world where you build something once and have it work forever.

Fed up with #macOS' #Spotlight. No fuzzyfinder, in 2024; no real drilldown; the way it organizes/sorts results are unintuitive. I shouldn't have to remember what /format/ a document is to go "oh right I oughtta scroll down a bunch to see PDFs” 😩

What's good for alternative launcher/finder tools these days? AFAIK, it's still down to the same candidates from ~10ya, ie #Alfred, #Quicksilver, #Launchbar? (EDIT: Raycast enters the chat! Tho its AI focus is worrying.)
