"British newspaper groups have warned Apple that any move to impose a so-called "web eraser" tool to block advertisements would put the financial sustainability of journalism at risk, the Financial Times reported on Sunday." Counterpoint: block the ads. #Media https://werd.io/view/6640fbf0ac0a7b80eb0d7a02

Step one: Make news web sites the least performant across the entire internet
Step two: Try and charge for subscription access
Step three: Campaign aginst tools that make the sites minimally more usable

I think this pretty much explains it. If people ‘democratically’ elect (ignoring the issue of gerrymandering and voter suppression) the ‘face-eating cheetah party’ that is their right.

“You can’t work here unless you pledge to believe an utter falsehood” is a heck of an HR policy. And everyone involved recognizes it and apparently spends a fair amount of time trying to work around the issue.

Journalistic questioning of any given official version of events is inversely correlated to temporal proximity.

Congratulations to the establishment for radicalizing a bunch of student protestors who while earnest were also likely more focused on finals next week and acing the job interview with Big Law, Consulting or Tech.

@Jonathanglick Yeah, very few students pay retail. But still, wow.

@Jonathanglick Probably not, but I am curious about that.

Re-read “Amusing Ourselves to Death” last week. Huxley maybe underestimated the profit motive connected to addiction.

The irony is, most of our disasters are actually the result of a lack of diversity of thought or lived experience.

I can’t recommend enough that people read “Normal Accidents” in considering how things like the Key Bridge happen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_Accidents

An underrated leadership skill is knowing how to avoid making decisions that anyone outside the c-suite would instantly and intuitively recognize as a triggering action for a staff revolt.

I'm afraid to quote-boost on Mastodon because I'm worried most people won't be able to read the quoted post. Is this fear justified?

dkiesow,
@dkiesow@social.kiesow.net avatar

@ben Which app would you use to quote-boost? I have only seen it appear as a quote with a link to a post.

Really - read the story. Every statement from the car dealers, data brokers or insurance agency amounts to “we take your privacy seriously” while selling your data to each other without your consent.
