So an author discovers someone is selling AI-generated books under her name on Amazon and then Amazon (initially) claims they can't remove them because she hasn't trademarked her name...

The books have been removed by now, but probably only because the author, Jane Friedman, went public.

Precies. En het gaat niet alleen maar om diabetes. Het punt is juist dat ze alle dossiers kopiëren (dus niet alleen de dossiers van chronische patiënten waar het oorspronkelijk om ging), dus als het misgaat liggen álle medische gegevens van álle patiënten op straat.

If you want to know what a future which uses Large Language Models extensively looks like, talk to a translator who uses a machine translation tool like Trados.

@cedar It's definitely true that the overall volume is going up and that a lot of that is being machine-translated, as it is often the type of documentation @motomatters mentions.

We can only hope that after the first hype about AI dies down a bit, people will see the difference between quality, human translation and cheap machine translation. So far, I still have clients who are willing to pay for a "hand-made artisanal" translation (I think I'm going to use that as my tagline... 😉 ).

@Renata I'm not a specialist in SEO, but I have done a couple of projects in the past that involved some SEO. Not a huge fan, as clients often expect you to use the same terms and phrases in the text over and over again, sometimes to the extent that it ruins your translation... However, there are plenty of courses out there if you want to learn more.

Not sure when the book will be out. My deadline is mid-August. I guess it will be out just in time for Christmas.

The Dunning-Kruger effect plays an important part in the #translation industry: too many people with only basic foreign language skills ("We've all learned English in school!") making statements and decisions on issues they should leave to specialists.

Hence the popularity of machine translation: if you don't know what it takes to create a quality translation, you'll accept anything that looks like a translation, without checking all those things a professional #translator knows can go wrong.
