The more I'm using #kbin the more I like it. There is a lot going on here (much more than pictured, but this should give a basic idea of using it for reading and subscribing to things). There is a learning curve (like the rest of the Fediverse) but it becomes easier once you get the hang of it. Descriptions of the screenshots are in the image captions. I have a separate account there as a "soft" partition and (edit- changed) an important thing to know is that upvotes translate into feed boosts.

I moved my headphones to a hanging board as my stand was too small and was originally planning on covering the bare wood with some gray contact paper (pictured, placed on top in the roll), but the unfinished wood look is starting to grow on me. Though I worry a bit about getting splinters in the headband or earcups...

I have a dormancy question. This is the first one for my one year old Venus Flytraps from seed. I seeded them way to close together (I know better now). I know the best time for separating them out is during the dormancy period, though when is best within that? Is it now when they are dormant for about a month or so with some green on them still or later closer to spring. If the latter do I just move the roots and rhizomes?

Getting ready to harvest and plant the Venus Flytrap seedlings. This year I am trying something different and working with live sphagnum moss. The idea is to share the water and help with water retention and PH. I won't be dropping the seeds straight into the moss as it seems that it would overtake the seedlings pretty easily, but trying it as a bedding type thing. The seedling container is a mini-greenhouse with a ventilated dome.

Okay this is really cool. Just to see what it was like I installed InkBox OS 2.0 (based on Alpine Linux and using the QT framework) on my Kobo Nia*.

There are some very neat things about it, but what I really like so far is the storefront style integration with Project Gutenberg (public domain books) so you can get to reading right away.

• The Nia has had some hardware changes, so using the patch release for my hardware.

Checking in on the very small bog I planted mid-August. The first pic is what it looks like now, the last one is just after making it. There is a lot going on in there that I tried to show a bit with the center pics. Drosera (Sundew) seedlings have sprouted from flower stalks I tossed in there just to see what would happen and some of them are growing on the moss. For watering I just kind of flood it every few days, they seem to like that.

FYI openSUSE Tumbleweed users, the downgrade to the xz library to roll it back to 5.4.6 is already in place (you can check by seeing the update target version) so update now (to do the downgrade) if you haven't already.

Flushing and checking the mini bog. Everything is pretty well anchored in at this point, but I still got pretty nervous when pouring off the water. TDS (total dissolved solids) was creeping up (lower is better) and pH should be acidic, but might have been bit more acidic before flushing than the Pinguiculas actually like (not entirely sure on that though). I swapped the lighting to a lower wattage also.

And lastly for today, I am trying to make a backup of my pot of sphagnum moss. It's hanging in there since I got it a few weeks ago from https://www.sphagnum-shop.com/en/live-sphagnum-moss/ (even through the heat of this last week) but it seems a good time to start a cultivation jar as an experiment. From what I read it doesn't need much for soil, but I made a bed using coconut coir to give it something to anchor to. The original jar (last picture) is outside getting some rain and fresh air.

Good afternoon and #tzag from Grövik Beach near Vaasa, Finland. It's warmish and overcast today. This area of the water from the Baltic Sea is also very warm (I started the day with a swim). I'm covered in mosquito bites from the last couple of nights since we are here in prime mosquito season. Heading further south later today. It's getting darker at night now that we have left the Arctic Circle, though not fully dark yet.

Open note to self: the non screw-in audio TRS locking cable jack is called "bayonet"*.

I tend to chew through these for whatever reason so have to remember the term when ordering replacements. I'd been calling them "Sennheiser locks" but that isn't exactly right.

Is there concern for snaps or flatpaks? Checking my own stuff it looks like applications using bundled liblzma are running in the 5.2.* - 5.4.* versions, but if someone has a bleeding edge application running an affected version, what would the remediation be? Would uninstalling it be sufficient?

I have an Android (and Nokia/HMD) question. After updating to Android 14 my Nokia G42 5G lost AAC codec over Bluetooth support, which downgraded some of my headphones as they are falling back to SBC (more noticeable on some headphones than others and these are without aptX* support, which is still working fine). Developer Options doesn't change it. Has anyone else seen this? I already factory defaulted the phone and recently updated to the April 2024 patch with no change.
