It's my first go at weaving, and I'm doing nonbinary sparkly merino (Eden Cottage Yarns: Nateby 4-ply) tartan. :D

It's a heddle loom, apparently? It's second-hand, and there are numerous bits missing, some of it is tied together with string. 🤔 I'll replace all the bits once I work out what they are...

My first weaving experience was making viking reenactment patterned bands using an inkle loom with punched cards, so I'm hoping to work out how to do patterns soon. :D

Pride tartan is totally my brand though. I might do loads.

I'm watching Wanted (2008) because I'm weaving and it's the only movie I've ever seen that had weaving in it.

It's still a stupid movie with a stupid and terrible message, but it does have weaving in it.

In related news, since I am quite new to weaving, if anyone is up for assassinating someone called AJENDUF ANRIKFNSK I'd appreciate it if you could get right on that.

This movie needs more weaving in it and maybe less murder. 🤔

Edit: Also it has trains in it quite a lot, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, they get destroyed a lot.

[you know, like "you can get free face masks from this website" or whatever, and it's clearly US-only but the post doesn't actually specify]

Use Firefox or Safari, they have proper end-to-end encryption (browser maker can’t read the data) of bookmarks and other private and personal browsing information (like your passwords!).

I can’t stress enough just how ridiculous it is that most of you just hand Google your passwords to everything from your bank accounts to porn sites.

@thomasfuchs It would not take very long to edit your post with something like "Edit: Sorry folks, this is about public link "collections" that Google have a responsibility to moderate; Google are not moderating bookmarks you save for your own personal private use." That would undo the misinformation that has been spread to, so far, the followers of 1,000 people through boosts.

Alright. I've got an ebook and I want to turn it into a physical book. I can bind books.

I would like to convert a digital document (epub or PDF or mobi) into a bindable book format.

So it needs to reorder the pages for signatures, and ideally it can cope with me changing the font size without it screwing up the page numbers, stuff like that.

Also, I'm on a Mac.

Does anyone have any tips? Recommendations for particular programs, or functions within programs that I might not know about?

I just think that if fewer people say "mixter" or "em-ex" than say "I don't know" when asked how to pronounce the gender-inclusive title Mx, it shouldn't be considered a notable pronunciation for a Wikipedia page about that title!!!

@zachleat Hello! I am using Tweetback (very handy) and I have a question.

When I do "npm run build" some images come up 404. I used web.archive.com to find the images. Is there an easy way to incorporate these recovered images into the archive?

Also, thank you! I am a big noob but my friend was able to help me figure out the instructions. :)

    When the last line of a post contains only hashtags, they appear right at the end (under any images or other attachments) and in a different colour. When there's a lot, only the first few are visible and then there's a "show more" button.

    It's a new vanilla Mastodon feature.

    Ugh, just got this anonymous ask on Tumblr.

    Apparently lgbt.io is disconnected from a lot of bits of the fediverse - does anyone have any more information about why, and which big instances it's no longer connected to?

    Also, does anyone have any recommendations for nice queer servers I could move to if the picture is bleak?

    With this pull request: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/26344 "Add new public status index", instances with post search enabled will allow users to search among posts that are marked "public" when their account is set to "discoverable".

    I suspect a lot of people are going to be changing default post visibility to "unlisted"...

    And I really hope the default visbility isn't already "unlisted" because then I will feel silly! I just didn't have a way to check without making a new account on a vanilla instance and I could not be bothered with the hassle, and I'm sure the admin's server bills can't either.

    Mastodon's whole mission statement and ethos is about being good social media with better privacy and harassment prevention, and when you pay even the smallest amount of attention it becomes apparent that Mastodon is about the same as or worse than other social media in many ways privacy-wise.

    The devs (coughwebsiteboycough) make choices that are like, "yes this makes posts and people more public and more vulnerable and that's not in line with our mission statement, but in this case I have decided it's worth it to keep more new users who don't care about that stuff" and I'm like....... 😐

    WE CAN'T EVEN TURN OFF REPLIES. THERE'S NO WAY TO SUBSCRIBE TO A BLOCKLIST.

    It does say it's a German non-profit, but there is no ethos or mission statement page.

    Germans who know stuff, how do we get hold of the public documents for the non-profit so we can find out what the mission statement is? (In the UK it'd be Companies House, but I don't know what the German equivalent is?)
