If one more mofo who says “I am not voting, or not voting for the lesser of two evils (as if there wasn’t a one),” calls me a “scold” for shaming them for it, I am going to unravel in a very ugly way.
We are not having an election about optimal governance. We are staring a full-blown fascist movement in the face that could end democracy everywhere. And they’re boasting about it. Anyone that doesn’t help stop them is complicit with them. There is no counter argument. So don’t even try.
Google Maps’s bike route overlay is a great example of how disjointed and poorly thought out Melbourne's bike network is. Lots of green but almost none of it connected to anything.
This is the "So few people find a festering rat's anus in their can of SpaghettiOs that finding one shouldn't be considered an actual problem" argument, eliding the fact that the number of rat anuses in ANY SpaghettiOs can should be "zero"
@grumpybabybear@randahl exactly, they’ve tried apartheid, occupation and genocide. They have to bomb maternity wards, it’s the only logical conclusion.
I accept that I am "the product" when I use free services like gmail, google docs, facebook (I'm not on facebook because of this), twitter (ditto), etc.
But when you take my money, I am not the product. I am the customer.
Amazon takes our money for goods and services, but still treats us like a product. That's the deeper message of this story at @verge
There are a lot of very thoughtful people who have put a lot of work into the prison abolition concept and movement, and the basic truth is valid: prisons are not designed to rehabilitate and almost always make people’s lives worse. We can do better than them.
Where I part company with prison abolition is exactly for people like SBF (and his like), where there’s no other consequence that gives justice except for revoking their freedom. No serious society can expect anything different
@liamvhogan In some hunter gatherer societies, shame plays a large part in preventing bad behaviour, and if one continues to act againts groups collective interests you're ostracised.
