My biggest problem with #capitalism is that it forces everyone to make earning money their primary objective.

Not to provide valuable services for society.
Not to make sure that people don't suffer.
Not to preserve our environment.

All these things are just optional side effects to the main objective of making money, and will be easily discarded if doing the opposite turns out to be more lucrative.

Does anybody else ever think how messed up it is that unless you go out of your way (or live in a very rural area), you are bombarded with ads for the entire time you are awake.

• Ads on your phone
• Ads on your TV
• Ads on every place they can buy outside
• Ads on almost every website

It is honestly exhausting, and I wonder what a world with heavily limited ads would look like.

Incidentally, the lack of ads is one of the very nice things about self hosting things, and being on fedi.

I'm of the opinion that #threads should not be engaged with in any way.

Not because I think it's a threat to the #fediverse, although it could potentially be.
Not because I think it will bring a huge amount of bad actors that will harass users on other instances, although that is definitely a risk.

My reason is simpler; #Facebook has done so much evil, society eroding shit, that I don't work with them on principle.

And Facebook knows that as well, which is why threads is instagram branded.

I've been trying out #Obsidian for the last 24ish hours, and it's way too early for me to say much, but one thing I have to say is:

JESUS FUCK are its fans cultish. All videos and articles act like Obsidian is the road to the salvation of your soul.

It makes reading articles about it a bit uncomfortable, and videos about it just creep me the fuck out.

Fuck, people, it's a note taking app...

I've been wanting to see what the #ObsidianMD hype is all about, but I just can't get over how the only proper sync is the one that uses their own infra. I would love it if I could point it at my own infrastructure for that.

Sure, I could use sync clients, but those don't integrate well with the mobile app.

Guess I'm sticking with #Joplin.

So, been on #BlueSky for a while, and I can't say I'm impressed.

• It really just feels like pre-musk twitter.
• The web UI is buggier than mastodon, I've seen some weird behaviour.
• It is super American, one of the nicest things of the fediverse is that it's not half as US dominated as twitter used to be, which makes it more pleasant for me. BS really feels like you stumbled in a democratic party convention.
• It's still owned by SV money, and that just leaves a bad taste.

So the #Berlin #CDU senator for traffic announced yesterday that "no new cycle paths will be built if any road or parking spot has to be changed for it".

This makes me super angry, as this will get cyclists killed, and it also explicitly states that cars own the streets here.

Of course it ignores all the climate and health benefits of cycling, or any of the other benefits.

I'll be joining the protest today at 17:45 on "Am Köllnischen Park 3".

Here's my mini-review of my new @tuxedocomputers #InfinityBook 14 Pro gen-8.

The good:

• The laptop feels solid and well made, very good build quality.
• Thermals and performance are great, barely seeing the CPU temp hit 60C under a stress test.
• Hardware video encoding works really well, even for video confs.
• Great touchpad, maybe the nicest I've had on a non-mac laptop, and I'd say rivalling the mac ones.
• Nice and crisp screen.
• Just in general quite happy with it.

As many #ADHD people, I tend to struggle with #paperwork, especially things that are sent to me by physical post.

Yesterday @excds pointed me to https://github.com/paperless-ngx/paperless-ngx, and I installed it and first impression is that it looks amazing.

I fed it a few scans of mail, and it OCRed it. So now I can:

• Search my snailmail.
• Copy and paste from snailmail.
• Tag my snailmail.

Next up is to make my scanner automatically upload scans to a directory it monitors.

This is huge for me.

Any apps/tweaks you'd recommend to a new macOS user? Especially stuff that makes the UI less clunky, saves me time, or just in general makes me want to curse the ghost of Jobs less?

Boosts OK, as the more suggestions I get, the less likely it will be that I need to hire an exorcist so I can take my revenge on the aforementioned ghost of Jobs.

Yes, linter, you're absolutely correct about that. But if you can figure that out, why the hell doesn't the compiler do it automagically as an optimisation step?

If there is a good reason why the compiler can't do that, I'd love to hear it.

As someone who lives in #Berlin, and still has family and friends in #Amsterdam, I would love this to happen.

I refuse to take the plane for such a small distance, and there's no way it should take 7 hours by train.

Finally followed through on my plan on going #swimming in the morning. And I reached a milestone in regards to my life long #aquaphobia; I actually swam in an area I couldn't stand in without panicking or needing to hold on to something.

Granted, I stayed close to the edge in case I did panic, but it wasn't needed.

Yesterday evening, I was cutting an avocado, and my knife glanced off the pit and went straight into my finger.

I immediately grabbed the cloth I keep there and wrapped it tight around my finger, as I live alone, I really can't afford to faint with blood spraying from my hand.

Then i called a close friend, and an ambulance, the ambulance brought me to a hospital and they stitched my deep cut shut.

So, as I somehow became a mobile developer (yeah, didn't see that coming either), I was forced to order #apple hardware (because why would you allow developers to develop on a non-apple platform, right?). So, I try to create an Apple ID with my work email, and the site says it's an invalid email address?

I really wish that the #Berlin city council would visit #Amsterdam and other #Dutch cities so they could see that cities become more livable (and commerce actually blooms) if you decrease the amount of cars in town. This goes doubly so for the new #CDU majority fraction of the council.

But no, instead they scrap all plans for #cycle paths, remove already existing ones, and really want to make the city as car friendly as possible.

The next election can't come soon enough.
