@MikeInTheGarden @druid I'm Team Druid here. Babybel isn't meant to taste like cheese, it's meant to taste like childhood picnics by the reservoir inside the car while the rain batters on the windscreen, and the whole car smells of wee because your brother had to use the potty in the boot. ie slightly shit but weirdly comforting at the same time. Vegan babybel captures that perfectly

We're having an internal discussion in @SocialCoop at the moment about whether to disable images and replace them with alt text for World Accessibility day, as per this post:https://social.coop/@stefan@stefanbohacek.online/112275638101628439. The outcome seems to be leaning to no for technical reasons, but I've been fascinated to see how many are giving the suggestion that it's performative as a reason to disagree.

The Home Office will launch a surprise operation to detain asylum seekers across the UK tomorrow..
Officials will hold refugees who turn up for routine meetings at immigration offices & also pick people up nationwide.
They will be immediately transferred to previously prepared detention centres & held to be put on later flights to Rwanda.

Anyone who takes part in this disgusting operation is breaking international law.

A very satisfying afternoon pruning the lavatera at the station garden, then putting the prunings through a chipper borrowed from to make wood chippings we can use in the composter. It all felt nicely , using the waste from one job to make something we could use for another process.

Just a quick recommendation/review for The Bike Sanctuary #BikeRepair shop in #Exeter #Devon - I popped in there yesterday to get my rear wheel looked at. Denes has only been running his own shop for three months after working for others for 16 years, and I went on a friend's recommendation - I don't think there's a lot of social media/SEO out there for it yet. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient and the shop has a strong sustainability focus on repair and reuse

And while I was there a bloke from across the road popped in wanting to buy an allen key, he didn't sell tools but lent him one instead which is how local businesses and communities should work really.

@suswatibasu life's too short and there are more books I want to read than I'll be able to get through in my lifetime. If there's something I feel I need to know about to, say, know what the opposition is thinking on a subject that's important to me I can find a summary - as an example I feel as a feminist I should probably be aware of what dangerous stuff Jordan Peterson is coming out with next, but I'll find a summary rather than reading the book

I hate many things about commercial social media, but one of the things I particularly hate is that in order to get the algorithm to show people things they now have to be videos which means instead of reading a page of text you have to read it three words at a time with a distracting video in the background

The counsel said Dr Benn's conduct had brought the profession into disrepute because she had broken the law by failing to comply with the injunction against protests at the Kingsbury oil terminal on multiple occasions & her fitness to practise was impaired as her conduct failed to justify patients' trust in the profession.
