  • Xepher_X,

@dansup I think implementing user blocks is definitely the way. The hardliners that don't want Meta to enter the fediverse are never going to win out in the long run. If Meta wants to join the fediverse, they will. They have too big of a user base for that not to happen. And right or wrong, the people against it are fighting a losing battle. Better in my opinion to figure out how to live alongside Meta's presence here.

    Threads Update 🔔🧵

We’re rolling out a beta of our fediverse integration in a few countries, including the US. Starting today, people who are 18 or older with a public profile can opt into a test that lets you share to the fediverse. You won’t be able to see replies or follows from the fediverse yet, but you’ll be able to see the total number of likes from Threads and the fediverse. To turn on sharing to the fediverse, go to your Account Settings and tap on Fediverse sharing.

    Xepher_X,

@igisho @mosseri I think you can just search @threads.net on your Mastodon instance to get a list of users it knows about already. I’m sure they’ll keep popping in as more users on Mastodon follow more Threads users.

    Xepher_X,

@mosseri I’m guessing these replies aren’t making it back from the #fediverse to #Threads though, right?

    Xepher_X,

@igisho @mosseri I think someone from your instance has to search for a Threads account for the first time before your instance “sees it”. Though I could be wrong.

Should I create a Video Explaining the Fediverse to those that don't understand it?

So many people are just plain not explaining it correctly on Threads.

You follow too many people, that's why you see posts you don't want to see.

If you disagree with someone about something important and their posts annoy you, don't follow them.

If someone you follow boosts posts you don't like, unfollow them too.

Be careful about following hash tags.

Be careful about following people simply because you share an instance.

Voilà, your #Mastodon network is fixed, "no algorithm" is your friend.

    Xepher_X,

@hirad @CartyBoston Came to say this. There's one person I follow that I enjoy her original posts, but they boost probably 30+ posts a day and it got to be very spammy. Hid their boosts and I'm back to being a happy camper.

So, if I don't want #Meta to surveil me should I block their instance from my instance? From what I read, as soon as I interact (in some way) with their instance, they start hoarding my data?

    Xepher_X,

@muiiio Anything you post publicly on Mastodon (or any other fediverse platform) can be ingested by anyone who wants that data, regardless of what domains you block.

    Xepher_X,

@muiiio @pixelfed I don’t think activitypub has any way to distinguish licenses like that, so if your posts are public and viewable from other fediverse platforms then no one outside a Pixelfed instance would even see that. That seems like a larger problem with the fediverse overall.

hey hi hello fediverse friends 👋

    Xepher_X,

@zed @parkerortolani You have to enable it on Threads. Also, he can see if someone from the fediverse likes his post (though not who) but he won’t be able to see any replies. Replies are just one way at the moment.

I'm curious what type of traffic that mastodon.social will start seeing from Threads now that fediverse posting has been enabled.

@sakura @fediforum I’m chill, lol. It was mostly a joke, though I was curious as to why it was such low quality.

    Zoot006, to fediverse

Following some Lemmy things (idk what to call them, sub-Lemmys?) and the difference of lemmy users and mastodon users is apparent. Wow am I happy I don’t use lemmy. They are getting unfollowed immediately.

    #lemmy #mastodon

    Xepher_X,

@Zoot006 technically they are just called "Communities" on Lemmy

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.

    Xepher_X,

@BraBraBra Convenience will always win out with the masses. There needs to be more tangible benefits for doing something more inconvenient than losing privacy for that to change.

    Xepher_X, to random

Hey @elk! On Elk my lists are not sorted alphabetically. I number them so on Mastodon they show up in the order I want. Is this something that is on the roadmap for Elk? Thanks!

    Xepher_X, to threads

I know there's a lot of people on the fediverse that feel very differently, but I'm excited about #Threads finally testing #fediverse integration with a public beta. The amount of people I've seen on Threads asking what the fediverse is since this was announced is staggering. If nothing else, I think this will help bring the wider fediverse more into the mainstream.
