Can we reclaim "jugaad"? It's taken on such a pejorative meaning of late. People use "jugaad" to mean solutions that cut corners or use unethical means....no no no no.

When we used old bicycle spokes to fix a TV antenna, that was jugaad. Finding a carpool when your taxi cancels is jugaad.Stitch- binding loose pages out of a book is jugaad. Jugaad is the spirit of DIY-ing yourself out of a tough situation. Let's bring it back. I'm haryanavi and we are the people of jugaad. 😁

If you're in your 30s and planning to have a child, there a large probability that you will be subjected to predatory tactics. many unscrupulous gynos will pump you full of hormones without even checking your health properly, often using fearmongering (you are overweight, you might be pre-PCOD! you have the slightest bit of facial hair, you may be pre-PCOD!) One of my besties was so over medicated that she developed a cyst... and she was then put on more medication to manage the cyst. 1/2

Things that I think will become common due to climate change:

  1. Rest of the world ( or at least, low income Western people) will adopt asian-style bucket bathing due to weather shortages. Communities will invest in grey water recycling.

  2. Guerrilla gardening will become more common, with people trying to reintroduce wild native plants to salvage urban landscape. Lawns will become less common.

  3. Countries with rare Earth metals will undergo hostile takeover by corporations.

Teaching my students about climate change. It's mad that a chapter on human effects on the environment covers the ozone hole and plastic pollution, but not climate change.

Just watching when Harry met Sally and OH GAWSH so many little things have been lifted by Indian movies. SO much of Sally is in Rani Mukherjee's character in Hum Tum. The whole "men and women can't be friends". The insertion of old couples in Dil Toh Pagal Hai. I am very, very late in noticing this 'cause I didn't really watch Hollywood movies 'til I was in my late teens.... Indian movie directors really took us for a ride.

Man I'm hitting the sad girl hours again. I've tried to commit to the process and literally done my best and frankly, it isn't much. Feeling like a fail. I wish I could detach myself from the results and just keep putting in the work but some results would've been nice, y'know?

The most crushing thought that I keep having these days is that they'll get away with it. The Ntanyhus and P*tins will live comfortably to a ripe old age and maybe history books will look at them disparagingly but there will be no accountability for their actions in this life. They plunder and murder hundreds and receive the mildest of wrist-slaps and carry on.

Franchise movies are a corporate way of sneaking in half-assed, mid movies between maybe three actually good ones. At some point, its just not worth it to spend time and money on 4 idiot movies to finally arrive at the point where you understand the backstory of one good one. Standalone movies or bust from now on.

Indian people trying to copy the mainstream western talking points about women in sport look doubly idiotic. Fam, you see pregnant women and young mothers literally carry 20 bricks on their heads on construction sites. You see them wield giant hammers and break stones for a daily wage. What are you trying say? That poor women can be strong because you don't really see them as human? Or that you're insecure that women with your privileges will finally start competing with you?
