@booksns I don't know about the appeal of horror books, but many who love horror films have told me they appreciate how they know the horror will end with the completion of the film, enabling a sort of healthy containment of the horror. I can't stand horror films myself though

If you appreciate somebody's work, like their kid, value their friendship, learned a lot from that thing they wrote, or whatever, for heaven's sake, tell them. I've gotten two really kind emails out of the blue in the past couple weeks, and the people who wrote them have no idea how huge those tiny glimmers of light are to me in this shitty, painful year. Say thanks! Tell people exactly how they're great, preferably in writing!
@eliotedits I've done this twice in the past two weeks, each to a professor regarding their scholarship & it just makes the world a nicer place, especially since scholars only expect to hear from colleagues & students, if at all, about the appreciated impact of their work
