@Cassandra You don't get a lot straighter than WHMS! I can basically recite it, and there are a few great lines/exchanges, but also I haven't chosen to rewatch it in an extremely long time.

My friend's wife halfway across the country has cancer and will be doing through chemo and radiation. If they were nearby, I'd bring them food. What can I do from so far away (other than emotional support)?

For those of you who've been through it, is some kind of food shipment helpful? Food gift cards?

@grammargirl My friend appreciated and got a lot of use out of a few of these soft caps. Genuine question: Does anyone live in a country, region or community that is taking covid seriously at this point?

If there are good places anywhere on the planet that are doing a good job at this stage in the pandemic, I would love to know about them.

*I'm asking for good news & signs of hope with this question. Please do not vent your pandemic frustrations in the mentions. I am not in a position to process your feelings or be your grief eater.

@ShaulaEvans Smaller scale than you mean, but my kids take classes at a homeschooling co-op that set up Corsi-Rosenthal boxes, requires vaccination and masking, and urges instructors and students to stay home when they're sick. We haven't seen any covid spread there at all over the years, and it's wonderful to have a super low-risk-feeling space for play and learning for them!

    @amyfou Black-capped chickadees are delightful. They are so quick and silly! I also enjoy seeing mourning doves, goldfinches, our resident cardinal family, grackles (they look like living oil spills!), and sometimes northern flickers in our yard.

    If you appreciate somebody's work, like their kid, value their friendship, learned a lot from that thing they wrote, or whatever, for heaven's sake, tell them. I've gotten two really kind emails out of the blue in the past couple weeks, and the people who wrote them have no idea how huge those tiny glimmers of light are to me in this shitty, painful year. Say thanks! Tell people exactly how they're great, preferably in writing!

    As much as I enjoy cooking and baking and gift-wrapping and fairy lights, I am really stuck on the part where my best friend and my grandmother were both alive last Christmas and aren’t now. This is hard and so so lonely.

    Minecrafty people, help? My kid's account hasn't been able to connect online (to play with friends) in several months, even though reconnecting with the Microsoft account acts successful when I click through with the code. I'm not even sure how to get relevant customer support?

    Details: Nintendo Switch; game is updated. We need a solution that does not risk breaking anything, as my child built a world with a friend who is now dead and losing that would be very painful right now.

    For the past two years, I've written a letter to my grandma every Thursday, printed and addressed it, and left it in the library returns pile for my partner to mail. (Before that we emailed constantly, but she stopped being able.) I hadn't expected just the fact of a Thursday to feel so uncomfortable and gut-punchy after her death, but here we are :(
